what if trump had calmed down on twitter, agreed to the bipartisan immigration deal and went gung ho on infrastructure instead of the tax deal? He would have significant wall completed. The economy would be stronger, Americans would be prouder and 4 more years would be easy peasy.

Zogby is a pretty bad pollster who basically stopped doing decent polls about 10-15 years ago whenever NBC and Reuters stopped funding his polling operation.

As always, there are a million good polls, go look at weighted averages of halfway decent pollsters, and focus on state level polls that help you understand the EC

Also, it's a little early to fully appreciate it when we don't know who the Dem nominee is, plus incumbency tends to help slightly as you get closer to the election. Having an approval rating in the low 40s and a disapproval over 50 would be really, really bad, though. unless he can convince the Dems to nominate Clinton again, since re-elections are basically verdicts on the incumbent.

So who was closer to correct in 2016, this "pretty bad" pollster or the "million good polls"?

Zogby didn't publish a horse race poll after July in 2016

The national poll average was something like Clinton +4 in a race she won by 2.1. The national polls were very good overall. The issue was at a state level.

They showed her winning MANY states she lost.

I still say the polls were off because MANY people would not admit they were going to vote for Trump at that time. But then Clinton did get 3 million more votes.
