What happen in Scott County Centrals Districts

There was one team in the district. Scott County girls won when district assignments were announced. Delta was in a 2 team district. So the quarterfinalist came down to one of 3 teams.

That was done by the geniuses at MSHSAA. Instead of balancing out the districts on the girls side, they just said screw giving the girls side any consideration, let's just copy and paste the boys districts to the girls.

My School's district had 8 teams but 2 Charter's decided they didn't want to play, dropped it to 6. KC area Charter schools, especially on the girl's side, rarely finish a season. Adding a 6th class was stupid on MSHSAA's part too

Most school admin (Supt and AD) are not in favor of separate districts for their boys and girls teams. Several good reasons why they oppose - longer travel times for girls, traditional rivals, if both of your teams make finals then both play on same night at same place.

Why break up the system that works for the vast majority of schools because a few Class 1 districts that don't all field girls teams. It's hard to believe it's 2021 and so many schools do not have girls basketball. Hello?? Title IX??

When this has been brought up in the past, it's been stated that most if not all these schools that don't play girls basketball have volleyball teams instead.

It is usually because they don't have enough girls who want to play. I have heard of class 3 schools that where the coach has to wander the halls begging girls to play.

Girls like volleyball more because there is less running. I heard it several times...
Volleyball travel teams happen in basketball season and it makes it hard to compete with that.

I will say this also. The basketball season is just to long for high school kids now days. I've heard this for quite sometime now that players are just ready for it to be over by the time February comes around. Boys and girls. No reason districts can't start a month earlier. Many teams in other states have a lot of games in by February. The other thing is, the girls that really do want to play the sport will continue it in club ball anyway, and club ball can't start till high school is over.

Agree. In small schools, the head bball coach has to have the athletic VB players play bball to compete. So, he must coordinate schedules with the club VB to get the VB to play. If you tell them they can't play bball and VB at the same time and make them choose, you'll lose many to VB. Club VB is on weekends and HS bball teams play very few Sat.

You have to convince the good athletes to play bball in small schools to have a chance. So you're gonna have to work with the VB players. Just give the club coach a copy of your schedule and the Sat games you have scheduled. But it must be understood that the girls first commitment during the season is the bball team.

Mineral Area Conference schools are doing a good job of getting girls to play both - Park Hills, Ste Gen, North County, West County, Arcadia, others. Lots of 2-3 sport athletes in the area. The small schools not offering basketball have no excuse IMO. Look what South Iron girls have done - I believe their bball program is less than 10 yrs old.

The move to 6 classes was voted on and passed by the member schools. Major changes (not all changes) like this are always voted on by the member schools. The board of directors chooses what to place on the ballot, usually based on the recommendations of the various advisory committees. It easy to blame MSHSAA for things you dont like but you might want to question why yor local school administrator voted a certain way.

The blame on MSHSAA comes from the fact that they showed no consideration for making the girls side of districts make sense. They just copy and pasted the boys districts to the girls side. Under the previous system, where private schools were locked into a class based on the attendance multiplier, this was a decent explanation for some weird district numbers. However, as soon as they changed to the championship factor, that meant MSHSAA was saying it was okay for some schools to have boys and girls in different districts. The natural assumption with that stance is that districts then could and would be balanced accordingly. Instead, they just copied the boys districts for the girls. If they are dead set on this mirrored district concept and some schools not having basketball on the girls side is an issue, then they should do the state-wide district maps based on the girls, copy that to the boys side, and add the extra boys programs in as needed.

I don't know. Back in the olden days I always thought there should be more games and fewer 3 hour practices.

I think the number of games and season length are fine now. Any less and we're really limiting exposure and development potential for the players. A lot of states play significantly more games than Missouri already.

I think it would be better to cut off a week or 2 at the beginning of the season.
