We all know pitching "Wins" are handed out in a ridiculous way some times.

But what is the real objective for a pitcher? Low Whip? Great K/BB ratio?
Be a sabremetric hero? Or to help your team win? TEAM wins are everything.

The Nationals won 70+% of Scherzer's starts. When he didnt start they were well below .500. His other stats were fabulous, but THIS is the most important one.

The Mets had a .475 win rate as a team. In games started by DeGrom they won at .438. He had incredible stats. Did he help his team win? Cy Young, my arse.

Scherzer had a 9.5 War and when he pitched his team won. DeGrom has a 10.0 War and when he pitched his team lost. I will take the Max. You can lose with your guy.

3 runs or less allowed in 31 of 32 starts

2 runs or less allowed in 23

1 or 0 allowed in 18

That really screams that deGrom is the issue. He should just pitch better. Maybe next year when they pull him from the game, he can be his own relief pitcher. Then he can close his own games too.

Like this.....Since you love the Cubs

June 2nd against the Cubs he threw 7 innings, struck out 13 and gave up 1 run. Muts lost 7-1. He really needs to do more!

Wins are the most overrated stat there is for a pitcher. Period. How many wins would he have had if he pitched for the red sox?

You need to read closer bro. Im not talking about his wins. Try again. His team won at a higher percentage when he didnt pitch.

I believe Degrom was awesome this year. Right behind Scherzer.

I think what you mean to say is Max had a better offense, defense and bullpen. And you would be correct

I mean he pitched. He struck out 300. He had a 9.5 WAR. His team kicked A when he pitched but the rest of his team magically sucked when he didnt pitch.

Yeah. And now go look at the Muts when deGrom pitched. Their entire team would shit their collective pants

The Muts averaged 2 runs scored less than the Nationals when deGrom pitched vs Max, 3.5 (5th worst) vs 5.4(tied for 5th best)

This is the same for runs scored while said pitcher was on the mound, 2.9(tied for 5th worst) vs 4.9 (11th best)

Again.....clearly deGrom should have just pitched better. Has nothing to do with how awful the Muts are as a team.

Sounds to me like Scherzer motivates his guys and is one hell of a leader. You people only use War when its convenient for you. 9.5 WAR is crazy good. You acting like Scherzer wasnt studly cant be sincere.

Where did I say that? Please quote me on that

Yeah, I’m confused about that one. Max was awesome, and the rest of his team was competent. Degrom was awesome, and the rest of the Mets suck. Especially when he pitched. That’s pretty simple. Not sure Degrom could motivate any better than pitching seven innings of one run ball and K’ing a dozen or so.

Max was my pick until the last month or 2 of the season. I just knew deGrom couldn't keep it up

Then he got better
