What a terrible, horrible, embarrassing week looks like for the SEC

PAC-12....6-2
SEC..........7-5
Big 10......5-5
ACC...... ..4-7
Big 12......2-5

If this was a shocking, embarrassing bowl week,
then I would say the SEC is pretty damn good.

5 of those 7 wins came against unranked opponents. The SECs ranked teams were 2-5.

If you don't think this was a shocking week then you aren't objective at all.

So are rankings valid? Why don't you break down all the conferences for us. And stop putting words in my mouth. I never said it wasn't shocking did I. I said embarrassing, horrible, terrible. Auburn and LSU both lost nail biters. Bama lost by a TD.
We arent talking about getting blown out here

aside from ol miss the other 4 losses really shocked me. some more than others but for 4 of the secs losses to come from teams all ranked in the top 4 at one point is crazy

What is strange is all year people referred to it as the SEC Least. But now that they carried the bowl games it s a "we" as a whole

This late in the season they can be considered valid. Not perfect, but valid. Wins over East Carolina (8-4), Iowa (7-5), Texas (6-6), Miami (6-6), and WVU (7-5)....all unranked. Only 2 wins over ranked teams. You would agree none of these teams deserve to be ranked. The two wins over ranked opponents were #25 Minnesota and #21 Louisville. Meaning 0 wins against Top 20 teams. Definitely not the SEC we have come to know.

Ranked teams results by conference:
PAC-12 5-1
B1G 3-1
SEC 2-5
ACC 2-2
Big 12 1-2

"Not like they got blown out". So after giving me a hard time about "moral victories" by looking at scores from last bowl season and pointing out that the game were tight now all of a sudden it means something?

SEC 7 5
Pacific-12 6 2
Big Ten 5 5
ACC 4 7
Conf. USA 4 1
Mountain West 3 4
Big 12 2 5
American 2 2
Independents 2 1
Mid-American 1 3
Sun Belt 1 1

Missouri played 10 bowl eligible teams.
Missouri beat 7 Bowl eligible teams in 2014/2015 (8 if you include Minnesota)
Missouri's regular season/conference championship opponents are 6-2 in their bowls with Toledo still to play Arkansas State...

* UCF lost by 1 point in their bowl, and Bama lost a close one to OSU.
* The SEC West Division played in bowls vs the B1G number 1, B1G Number 2, ACC Number 2, Big 12 Number 1,

In other words, one division of the league was matched up with the best teams from each conference.

Really most people that are objective can see the SEC really......................

The entire point of the post, which I thought was obvious, is that the SEC had a very dissapointing, some consider tragic bowl season and yet their record is 7-5. That means the standards for this conference are unreal.

These rankings that you think are valid had an ole miss team that lost 3 of their last 4 conference games ranked 9th. They also over rated Miss. State all year. Those are just two examples. Rankings are not valid. So using rankings in your critique is also.

Dating back to the 2013 season, the SEC has gone 0-5 its last five BCS or New Year's Six bowl games, going 0-2 against the ACC, 0-2 against the Big 12, and 0-1 against the Big Ten.

The big 10 got throttled by Louisiana tech, Tennessee, Stanford (all unranked) and Mizzou.

That's not an arbitrary time frame at all. That doesn't even date back a full year.

The SEC is an excellent conference and nobody is denying that. But it's not so much about the record as it is the expectation. When you go into the game as the favored team, you are expected to win the game. That happened more for the other conferences and not so much for the SEC.

And my point was that it goes deeper than a 7-5 record. A division of the best conference in the country had arguably one of the most dominating regular seasons according to those rankings that many of you were so quick to point out theoughout the season. Including at one point having 3 in the top 4. Veer was quite often quick to post those rankings after each week. Those ranked teams went 2-5.

Agreed that the Mississippi schools were overrated. But that may be due to the love affair many have with the SEC. Ole Miss and TCU was a straight up mismatch.

SEC had the second or third best bowl season this year. Not what we expect from what is admittedly the best conference in the country.

Re: Terrible, horrible, embarrassing week, SEC 92 million $$ \ 14

$6,571,000.00
PER TEAM.

Re: Terrible, horrible, embarrassing week, SEC 92 million $$ \ 14

Out of curiosity...how much did they lose without a team in the championship?

Re: Terrible, horrible, embarrassing week, SEC 92 million $$ \ 14

Saw somewhere it cost each team 1.2 million

Re: Terrible, horrible, embarrassing week, SEC 92 million $$ \ 14

Wow...thanks. Vandy is making out like a bandit

Mizzou won.

And SEC tied their own record for bowl wins in a season.

Yes...I watched the game. Good win for Mizzou.

Tied their record that they set last year, right? Was this year as impressive as this year or was their some disappointment this year? Didn't beat a Top-20 team and the best teams in the best division in the best conference went 2-5. Good thing Mizzou and Georgia took care of business.

the whole SEC East took care of business. Has any other division ever done that?

Think the record was a few years back. I dont recall. Nobody has ever matched it. You can only play the teams you are pitted against...right?

Yes. The SEC East kept this from being a disastrous bowl season so hats off to them. But any non-bias football fan should be able to admit that the 7 wins of this season are not the impressive wins we have seen over the past decade. And this is the first time in a long time where we can put another conference at #1. The most competitive bowl season we have had in a long time.

Why isn't anyone talking about the Conf USA going 4-1?

Funny stuff, it doesn't matter who you play just matters what your bowl record is(Veer logic).....

Unless you're talking about the ACC whooping the SEC this year....................

Mizzou won their bowl game

Your team got beat by 39.

And are the laughingstock of sports right now.

That's funny stuff.

That'll last for about a week then the offseason talk will be of FSU's class coming in. Hope you're paying attention.

Mizzou won a bowl that 95% of America didn't even know was played. Congrats! Another T-shirt to add to your collection.

Just copy and pasted out of something (CBS Sports???) I happened to be reading at the time that I thought was interesting. Not my timeline, just the one from the article.

Yeah because New Years day at noon nobody will be watching the only game on non-cable TV.

Were you born stupid or do you sit at your desk all day smacking your head with a hammer to 'improve' yourself?

I see. Well, I will pass my criticism from you to CBS Sports.

15 years ago that non-cable debate might carry more weight. Not so much now. The fact that it was the only "non-cable" game might have an effect on the eight households in the country that don't have cable.

The SEC probably was still on balance the top conference this year. What is amusing is the narrative:

September: Ohio state would probably be a .500 team in the SEC
Notre Dame couldn't beat the first 11 things to come out of a box of Lucky Charms
The SEC West might be better than the NFC South
The SEC might have 3 teams in the national championship game. As we speak a triangular football field is being constructed at a top secret facility
The ACC smells like teen spirit
The SEC doesn't need to play tough non-conf games for SOS. Competition is tough enough in the league

January: All our top teams got smoked but you can't judge the season on one game and look at all the money we made.

At least the SEC isn't the bigbevo.

And Mizzou won big in a bowl game. How did each of the hater's teams do?

Man that's gotta burn.
