Why is it spelled with a “K” besides that’s the way it is spelled???

You're not wrong about it being spelled that way because that's the way it's spelled. In the 1500's writing standards had already been put into practice, but for one debatable reason or another people stopped pronouncing the k sound at the beginning of kn words (along with the w sound at the beginning of wr words and the g sound in gn words). At the same time the way vowels were used was changing, which lead to other weird English things (like how bread and read both have ea in the middle but are pronounced differently for example).
All of that to say that the history of English is fascinating and ended up with our weird contradiction to rules and inconsistencies in the language.

And being from SWMO we hear Wal Marts a lot. My favorite has to be what we did to Bois D' Arc, Bona, Nevada, El Dorado etc. etc. All pronounced incorrectly if your local.
Well you should hear how people butcher Monett, Google and Amazon always pronounce it wrong.
