West Plains 28-6 FINAL

This game has turned into a bit of a rivalry over the last 7 years. West Plains has now won 6 out of the last 8 in that time span. With the teams facing each other twice in 2016 I believe. 5 of those 8 matchups have been decided by 6 points or less(3 of them being decided by 1 point).

For those who watched, we got to see what West Plains was capable of if they play to their full potential and stay focused and disciplined for 2 and a half quarters against a team in the top half of the conference.
Defense played very well. #24 Garrett Drown had multiple sacks and #2 Dagan Kenslow(who also starts QB) had multiple key pass breakups.
Defense forced multiple fumbles and it seemed like Camdenton was going for it on 4th down multiple times each possession. Twice Camdenton was inside their own 10 and was either stopped by the WP defense via turnover on downs or a forced fumble. WP defense was also flooding to the ball very well both directions.
West Plains also dominated the line of scrimmage for about 85-90% of the game.

Now during the second half, there were a number of botched snaps and long snaps and a few fumbles, that’s going to happen sometimes. Thankfully, WP was up 28-0 when that started happening. This game could have very easily been 42-0, maybe even 49-0.

WP offense was able to use all of their weapons tonight and it showed how much easier it made things. Kenslow was running and throwing the ball well. Seeley and Lair continued their smash mouth RB tandem dominance as well as making some things happen on screen passes. Miller(WR)came back in the lineup last week after missing the first two games. He gives the Zizzers a legitimate downfield threat in the passing game due to his speed and he’s only a sophomore. They also utilized him in the running game tonight as well.

Next week should decide the Ozark Conference championship between Kickapoo and West Plains. I stand by my statement a few weeks ago that Bolivar is going to finish 6-3 at best in their first season in the OC and still could possibly end up 5-4.

Back to this week though, one thing that has become something of a trend with WP starting last year, which has had me worried in regards to the team is leaving starters in when the game is well out of reach. WP left their starters in the entire game tonight.
I get wanting to preserve a shutout potentially and leaving defense in, but leaving in your 4 best offensive weapons the entire game when you’re playing Kickapoo(potentially for the conference title) in 7 days, is just unnecessary and reckless. Especially considering one of those players was injured the entire 2nd half of the season last year and it definitely hurt come District time. You’re up 28-0 with less than 4 minutes left in the game, you’ve pretty much guaranteed a 13-point deficit to maximize district seeding points and yet you leave your primary starters in, I guess the coach will have to learn the hard way at some point unfortunately. And it will not only cost him, but the team and the players as well.

But hey, West Plains is 4-0 and now the only remaining undefeated team in the conference after Kickapoo and Bolivars losses tonight. The Poo is still 3-0 in conference play so now the OC title is literally Kickapoo or West Plains to lose at this point.

If we get to districts it seems like WP will win their class 4 district. I think they are better than Bolivar or CJ.

Everything pertaining to districts is uncertain until MSHSAA comes up with the new Covid-year alignments on Wednesday, if then.

True but this is assuming WP is still class 4 and Webb City is class 5

And that’s also assuming that WP doesn’t get shipped off East. You never know where the state is going to send them due to their geographic location.
I’m excited for next week. West Plains seems to have gotten their kinks worked out defensively. Allowing 36 ppg in weeks 1 & 2 and less than 7ppg the last two weeks.
should be a good game against a surprisingly good kickapoo team it seems.
