THE OZARKS
Bolivar with a big return on the opening kick.

WP D holds them in the red zone.

Bolivar Kicker misses FG from left hash. Z take over at their own 7

Impressive first win at Bolivar for Coach LaSalle.
From a Zizzer fan, I 100% agree.

Down 24-6 with 2:28 left in the 2nd Q to winning 42-38 on a last minute TD.

I’m not going to lie though, I expect a different result in a few months during districts.

Last year, WP wins 16-7 in Week 1 and 45-0 in Week 12. BUT it’s a new year, so who knows.

A few things that I noticed from the game last night. This is the smallest team West Plains has had in sometime almost everyone was playing both ways. by the fourth quarter West Plains was out of gas. West Plains better tighten up their Defense and make tackles. If not it’s gonna be a long year for that team, but I’m sure the coach is going to get them whipped in shape for next week and the heat will be gone. they have Glendale coming to town next week. As far as our offense goes, we have a pretty good quarterback and receivers. This year our running backs are average. The offensive line is going to have to make some holes for our backs to get through if we’re gonna have success in the run game. Hopefully that will come with time.

I agree.

My assessment:

1. Not near as much size on the offensive line as we’ve had the last 8 years or so.
2. Our offensive line is more inexperienced and younger than it’s been in awhile, they’re going to have to get better.
3. I will agree that we’re not as talented at the RB position as we’ve been in years past, but pur RBs would look a lot better if we had better blocking
4. The defense has to step up and get better. I don’t think we were ready for Bolivar. I’ve seen LaSalle coached teams in the past at both Marionville and Miller. He’s going to have a good game plan offensively, he always does, so if we face Bolivar in districts, the defense is going to have to be ready.

Now, onto the positives.

1. Jones did very well at QB for his first varsity start. I think he’s going to be a good one these next two years. And he’s got more size at QB than we’re used to. I think he’s listed at 6’3 195. It’ll be interesting to see how he fills out by his senior year. He threw the ball well, but could have been better. And he ran the ball a lot better than I expected.

2. If the o line doesn’t clean it up, we will be leaning heavily on Hughston and Kenslow at WR and they’re both pretty darn good. Not as fast as Miller, but just good receivers overall.

3. I hate to say this, but I think Howell just needs to play offense and we need to get him more carries. And this is coming from a defense guy.
He’s a load and with the inexperience we have at RB, we need to just feed him the ball when we keep it on the ground.
