Ste. Genevieve senior quarterback Brendan Weiler
enters his final high school season having established an accomplished resume as
he prepares for his final prep season. Weiler, a 6-foot-1 inch, 190-pound
signal put together a solid junior campaign for the Dragons completing 64%
(241/377) of his passes for 2,826-yards and 26 touchdowns.
Growing up around the game with his father Bob an assistant at
Ste. Genevieve the younger Weiler has a great awareness and knowledge of the
game beyond his years. A mobile quarterback, Weiler has the ability to
quickly advance through his reads, but can also scramble and make a play when
the pocket breaks down. While some programs may avoid Weiler who is
just a hair under 6-foot-1 inches tall, he offers many skills, leadership, and
outstanding decision making skills.
In his junior season, Weiler was named MOsports.com Class 3
player of the week, was named to the KTJJ Regional Radio Dream Team, was named
among the top ten players in Southeast Missouri, and was a Mississippi Area
White Division all-conference selection. An Old Spice Player of the Year
nominee, Weiler is putting together a solid prep career.
A two year starter, Weiler has compiled 5,525 passing yards, a
64% completion percentage, and has passed for 53 touchdowns. A running threat as
well, Weiler averaged nearly 7 yards-per-carry last season, rushing for
461-yards. With nearly every Dragon offensive starter returning this
season expect those numbers to rise significantly in this final campaign.
Awaiting his first offer, Weiler has received recruiting
interest from Murray State, Southern Illinois, Northwest Missouri State and
others. A big season for Weiler and the Dragons who hope to return to winning
football expect great things in 2011.
