2009 was a great year for the Suburban East, however graduation hit everyone
in the league hard including the loss of Affton standout Markus Golden. With
a new season and many new faces an exciting race for the conference crown is
expected as the league chases Kourtland Webb and the Ladue Rams.

Suburban East Pre-Season Conference Notes:

1. Ladue-
Senior quarterback Kourtland Webb
returns to direct the Rams offense. Webb passed for
1700-yards and 16 touchdowns a season ago while he also rushed for 885-yards
and 13 touchdowns. Also returning on offense senior Charles Badgett
a speedy Ram who added 809 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns. Junior
wideout Jehu Chesson(6-3 175) is the top returning
receiver. Senior linebacker Tucker Bond(5-10 180)
returns after compiling 94 tackles and 5 sacks.

2. Normandy-
Junior quarterback Terrell Whitfield(6-1 195)
returns to quarterback the Vikings. He passed for 727-yards a
season ago.
Whitfield is the top returning rusher for the Vikings along with
senior Jovan Harris(5-6 155). Senior defensive end George Fuller(6-3
200) returns after compiling 57 tackles, 3 sacks, and 2 fumble recoveries.
The addition of Wellston students will only help the Vikings depth although
Wellston did not field a football team.

3. Jennings-
The Warriors take the field this year behind senior quarterback
JaVon Boyd(6-3 190) who passed for more than 1,000 yards
and 13 touchdowns a season ago. The Warriors will rely on the return of a
talented rushing trio of senior Terrance Hoskin(6-2 180),
junior Raheim Holloway(5-7 155), and junior Quinton
Davis
(6-1 185) who combined for 1,500 rushing yards and nearly 20
touchdowns a season ago. Junior linebacker J.D. Smith(6-0 240) returns
as one of the leagues top defenders. Smith compiled 113-tackles and 1
sack a season ago.

4. Berkeley-

After starting the 2009 football season 3-1, injuries led to a lack
of continuity on offense for Berkeley. Losses to five playoff teams
in the final 7 games made Berkeley players hungrier than ever during
the offseason and weight room participation was as high as its ever
been under head
coach Howard
Brown. Senior leadership of gifted athletes Lonell Watkins(6-4
192, WR), Jordan
Woods
(5-9 170 WR/CB) as well as die-hard Bulldog Dushawn Blakeley(5-10
155 LB) is even stronger
than when MS-B won its district in '08 and reached the state
quarterfinals in Class 3. Coach Brown has refocused the core of his football
team - Berkeley
will win the battle both in the trenches and in turnover margin.
Berkeley has more capable starters than they have positions to fill,
so the competition leading up to 3 straight home games will set the
tone for the entire 2010 campaign.

5. Affton-
Life after Golden begins for Affton with the departure of
Markus Golden
who rushed for 2,264-yards and scored 28 rushing touchdowns a
season ago. Dominique Preston(5-9 185)
is the top returning rusher for the Cougars, he rushed for
600-yards and 6 touchdowns last season.
Affton must also find a quarterback and will rely on Preston on
defense as well from his linebacker position where he compiled 71 tackles
and 2 sacks.

6. Clayton-
The Greyhounds hope to turn around a 1-9, 0-5
campaign of a season ago. Senior quarterback
Chase Haslett(5-11 160)
completed 45% of his passes for 685-yards
and 7 touchdowns last season.
