Webb gets a huge 1st down on 4th and 1 to put the game away with 1 minute remaining around the 20 yd line and instead of taking a knee they run the score up on Ladue. Real classy Webb....

If Webb is up 3 scores, I might agree. When it is a one possession game you take the points.

14-0 (or any time you try to go up by two scores instead of one) is not running up the score.

If anything, an opposing team down only one score should be grateful for more opportunities to strip the ball instead of seeing victory formation and having no chance...

Honestly, taking two knees would've been safer than handing it off and trying to gain yardage. About 99.999% of lost fumbles occur on plays other than victory formation.

True though, probably trolling going on here. But just think how many would've been questioning the play call if the ball got stripped and carried back to the house by Ladue?

Wouldn't call it classless though.

Ladue didn’t even try to stop Webb after that. They gave up. That was bad. And what the student section yelled at Webb at half wasn’t very classy either.

Ladue had another timeout. Had to get a first to take a knee.

I don't think WC came to play in the state game to take a knee in a one score game when they can put it away not knowing for sure time will expire. It's like their coach said in the paper, " we were one play away the entire game."
It's John's team, he can do whatever he wants. 11 state titles is phenomenal! "No class"? More like all class!

Wrong. They used their first with over three minutes to play (3:49), their second at 1:39, and final at 1:01.

I'm not calling it classless or running up the score or a cheap late touchdown, just defending a point that Webb would've won 7-0 by kneeling it. At 1:01 I quickly wondered if Webb would come out in victory formation or instead do something similar to what other teams have been criticized on here for doing before.

7-0 or 14-0, Webb gets credit for a huge advantage in total yards nearly 400 to less than 100, but Ladue gets tons of credit for being one breakaway play from being even on the scoreboard on their next to last possession of the game.

Coach Rod said after the game that the ref on sideline told him that taking a knee might run out the clock but he couldn’t be sure yet. A simple hand off on a dive. How was JRod to know that Ladue wouldn’t try.

No class? That's laughable

Fact 1 - there is no scenario where a single play can beat you when you are up by 14
Fact 2 - there are multiple scenarios where a single play can tie or beat you only up by 7
Fact 3 - if WC has no class than the OLB tries to take it the house on the INT at the end to win by 20 instead of running to the center of the field and hook sliding down untouched (or win by 22 because JRod probably goes for 2 in that case to cover the over LOL)

in what reality is winning by 14 ever running up a score and classless? Maybe in basketball shooting threes up 11 but not in football
What it have been less classless if the kicker took a knee on the PAT so it wound up only 13-0?

which would you choose if holding the clip board in that scenariio; rely on the officials for help or anyone else besides your 11 guys in the huddle Or keep matters in your own hands and put it out of reach?

If Ladue could catch a couple passes may have won. Ladue could have ran up the score lol

Same song as last year for the Rams. Very, very good defense especially up front but polar opposite offense. I was on their bandwagon to make the title game since last year ended but was curious whether the O would improve enough to get them over the top. That was answered yesterday............

Ladue dropped 2 passes, neither were touchdowns. Based on the other 33 plays what makes you assume they convert those completions into points?

lol oh now im not trying to take anything away from the cards. but the first one was pretty wide open and with his speed could have turned into one and the second one would have put the ball on the 15 yard line. both should have been caught.

No worries, just a conversation. Ladue managed 3 first downs all night. First and 10 from the 15 is no guarantee of a score. That’s all I’m saying. WC had plenty of missed opprutinitues as well, just less obvious to most than a dropped pass.

Thanks Webb for covering the spread. LOL

I know for a fact that nobody from the Ladue is crying about Webb not being classy for scoring a touchdown to make it 14-0. I don't blame them at all for trying to put the game away late and if I were a coach I'd do the same thing.

Both student sections were rather quiet for the whole game and never heard anything in bad taste between the two... Apart from some Webb fans not giving Ladue any credit for holding them to their lowest points scored in a game all year, despite winning, both sides have shown class from what I can tell.

We'll never know, but those plays would've given Ladue a lot of momentum. For all we know Webb probably would've pushed them back or held them to a field goal.

Great defensive battle, old fashion game. I loved it. If it is the DC last game what a way to go out.

Talked to one of the players and he said Ladue was one of the least mouthy teams we have played all year. So congrats to the Ladue kids for playing hard.

I'm glad to hear that. I've filmed three Ladue games while on the sidelines this season and I never heard anything bad at all from the Rams sidelines or players on the field. Even from the bleachers they don't seem to mouth off after a play.

I was on Webb city’s sideline doing color commentary for radio station. The ref told Coach Rod after converting on the 4th and short, “taking a knee will run out the clock, Coach.”

Who cares. Webb won.....14 point lead isn’t running up the score or disrespectful. Try again next year.

Bullsh1t. You overplayed your hand fella because I am on the WC sideline! I heard the conversation and the opposite was communicated.

I've watched and/been a part of Webb football since 91' . In the last 20 years I remember 1 instance of them running up the score ...I dont remember the exact circumstances but Webb had their backups in ...cj did something to anger Webb. A timeout was called ..first team came back in and threw a 60 yd bomb first play back for a TD. Only other thing close I remember to them "running up the score " was when a coc team decided to not trade film with Webb. Webb started the game w an onside kick and it was 60-0 @ halftime . That was also the final score.

At CJ Webb was up big in second half,,,JRod was getting everyone in the game. CJ scored a couple of times an their crowd started chanting "Over RATED",,,,,timeout called, starters back in and the first play was the single handed highlight reel catch by Zerk who took it to the house"

Yep, he sure taught that CJ student section a lesson that night! I bet those kids still talk about that.
