Not to mention the kids doing enough to make DeWitt to tell MO don't spend any money our kids are great. (Diaz,Piscotti, Grichuk) I see us coming in 2nd on all deals in the off season:(

Yes it is! Now if could just find a solid 4 and 5 for the rotation we might be able to make a run.
Just can't wait for Waino to declare he's healthy. What then? CMart to the pen? Makes about as much sense as Piscotty and Grichuk playing RF over JMart.

You might have plugged a Leake....

Rumor is Leake is on his way out.....like now. Trade in the works
Just heard that on 101. Hope it's true, but probably will fail because the advanced metrics say it's not smart.

Mariners

I'm guessing you guys are eating that money.
If they eat the money then they should get a pretty good player in return, if not they will get another bags of balls like they got for Adams. By pretty good I mean a reliable bullpen arm

Looks like another money dump as we get fewer baseballs than we got for Adams. They damn well better spend some of that money on Lynn or somebody. Getting rid of Leake seems to be a good move depending on what they do down the road. I'm guessing Lynn gets signed by end of year.

And that, VB, is the key statement of your post. If they use this coin to sign someone of value going forward, then I love the move. If they sit on their hands...

Birds supposedly sent Leake, $17M, and $750K of international pool money. If Waino starts another game this year or next, this was a bad move. But hard to say it's a bad move to get out from under that contract.

What does Waino have to do with it? There's a decent possibility he ends up as the team win leader this year even with all that's happened. And it'll be with less losses than the other starters. He's 25-13 the last 2 years. Leake was 16-24. If Waino gets healthy he's still capable of giving them more than they got from Leake.

You honestly think he isn't healthy? He's been getting rocked all year. Bad control and decrease in velocity all season. He has allowed a runner and a half an inning for the last two seasons. His record has far more to do with run support than it does his ability to get the other batter out. He's brutal. He was barely better than really bad last year. Can you honestly tell me you think the Birds have a chance to win a game when he's on the mound if they don't score at least six? My point is, if they were choosing between Waino and Leake making starts in the next 13 months, they made the wrong decision. If the decision was between Leake and Lynn, then I applaud them.

Just win baby. I don't care how it looks. Waino has done a lot more of that than Leake the last 2 years. Maybe the team plays better for him I don't know. I know he's not what he was but I still like his attitude and what he can add. If my choice was him or Leake next year I'd give Waino the chance.

Sweet baby Jesus, I hope to see Waino pitching to Schwarber, Bryant, Rizzo, Happ, Willy, Baez and Russell next year

It seems Lynn is NOT in their future. They're bringing up Flaherty to start in SF and they have had no discussions with Lynn for the future. In the article on the Cards website Mo is only talking about the young guns for the future, and the future is now.

They can always sign Lynn after the season. Judge them then.

It's tough to imagine we aren't signing someone else at SP:

Martinez is in
Waino is old
Wacha is always one start away from the DL
Reyes is coming off major surgery
You have the prospects (Weaver 1st, then Flaherty and others) but you gotta think they want to give themselves some room here.

It may not be Lynn, but I struggle to see this team going to camp in February without another decent arm. The risks of Waino/Wacha/Reyes are way too high to consider them stable arms

Has anyone noticed that young guns seem to be the model rather than big guns?
Let's see what they do in the offseason. Without the Leake contract + Lynn's money is gone...there's cash here to do something.

Hopefully, the model is they use these young guns in the right spots to keep costs down and then spend on another big gun of some kind.

We also need to see what they do about the outfield log jam. Way too many quarters. Need to trade something for a dollar out there. Fowler is fine and Pham deserves a shot, but there's way too many guys besides that who don't have a clear path to full playing time.

I would like to see Pisc get real hot. His contract is quite tradeable.

I agree. One thing to keep in mind is the best way to improve the middle of the order will probably be in the OF. Martinez is a FA, Upton and Stanton or on the trade market according to rumors. Should be an interesting winter and I think Girsch got a head start on it by trading Leake. By the way is MO still in charge of making trades? Girsch was invisible as best I could tell yesterday.

MO is still in charge. Girsch get "input". Eventually it will transition into Girsch being able to pull the trigger on deals by himself. Or at least that's what I heard. I think it was The Commish on TMA yesterday, IIRC.

NM you said they could sign Lynn after the season, judge them then. 2 minutes later you said Lynn's money is gone.

I just meant he's off the books at 7.5 M a year. That plus leake is a good chunk of change. And waino up after this.

There's a lot of money coming available from the rotation. They will be signing someone.

IF they would re-sign Lynn it would take MORE money out of the pot, not add to it. They took Siegrist off the DL and DFA'd him today, I assume they owe him some money.

He was making about a mill and a half. Not any real savings there.

Siegrist is going to pop up somewhere else
