Glendale and Raytown South had nice battles in the past

When I first started coaching in the seventies I wrote Bud and asked for some information on his offenses. He sent me everything except that 6-9 post man that was fairly essential to run his offense right. He was a very fine coach and always had time to help other coaches. He will definitely be missed.

I had finished the game I was broadcasting at the state tournament and stuck around to watch Raytown South on press row, they played Riverview Gardens for the title and were up by something like 20 points or more in the start of the 4th... then Riverview Gardens got hot. Lathrop took a time out, Riverview continued to shoot, another Raytown South time out.
When the game was finished, Riverview gardens were champions in the most incredible game I have ever seen. Coach Lathrop tried every trick in the book on his team.

Very sad news. He’s one of my all-time fav HS coaches. Loved watching his teams play. Was hanging out with Raytown’s dist AD a few days ago and asked about Coach. He mentioned he was in very bad shape. We talked about Coach Lathrop and his teams for a bit and he shared some great stories about him. I know he will be missed greatly. RIP Coach.
