And when you look at all of the other active National Emergencies I don't see how any court could rule that hundreds of thousands of people and tons of narcotics pouring over the border into our country doesn't qualify.

And it looks like the act gave complete power to the president to declare emergencies except for 6 specific exceptions.

Congress has the power to recend any emergency declaration by passing a resolution in each chamber, if the president vetos it then it must have 2/3 majority to override the veto like any other piece of legislation

And, there are laws on the books to cover the drug related issues more so than the illegals part of it. Both are pretty urgent needs in my book.

70,000 American deaths directly attributed to opioids coming over the border should be reason enough
Tell us how a wall/fence ANYWHERE will stop the 80 to 90% of the drugs that come into the country though the legal points of entry. Dems have voted for some big money for better technology to spot the drugs coming through in trucks and other vehicles at border crossings. Wouldn't you really like to catch it where the vast majority of it comes in?

You are just ignorant,,,,,,90% of the drugs we stop are found at ports of entry. The problem is all of the tons of drugs that are moved across the border over the unguarded borders between ports of entry that are not stopped.

The important statistic would be what percentage of drugs that make it INTO the country come through ports of entry compared to the thousands of miles between them. That of course is a statistic that is impossible to know

So you can't know how much comes across anywhere else, so stop claiming what you DON'T know is a crisis. Even Trump said "I didn't need to do this." Then he hopped on plane to Mara Lago. That pretty much shoots down any claim he can make about a national emergency. I'll bet his WH lawyers were about to pull their hair out when he said that. He is his own worst enemy most of the time.

I know that hundreds of thousands of criminals coming into our country packing tons of drugs with them is a crisis

Then quit saying 90% of the drugs come in through ports because that isn't accurate. What outsideveer said IS ACCURATE. We don't know how much drugs is crossing the unguarded border but we do know a lot is and LIKELY far more than is intercepted in ports. Just the fact that it is very unlikely to be intercepted dictates that likelihood.

So you think it comes across the border in semi trucks, vans and cars somewhere other than normal ports of entry?

Do you actually think it has to be transported by the ton?
Have you ever heard of these ATV things?
I know that I wouldn't be bringing anything in where it can and would have a likelihood to be detected.

They know less than 10 % of them get checked so it's not that big of a gamble. If we get the technology that will check a lot more trucks, like dems have and will vote for, then that risk goes up. I'm sure those guys with "calves like cantaloupes" can carry a lot too.
