The major RR's and the unions did not come to a contract agreement after 3 years of negotiations so it went to a Presidential Emergency Board to come up with a recommendation to settle it. If either the RR companies or the RR unions don't accept the recommendation there will be a 30 day cooling off period after which the RR companies could lock out their employees or the unions could call a strike. If there is a RR shut down shipping will likely be worse than it was during the pandemic. Containers are already backed up in our ports because of a lack of train crews to move the trains. That has been caused by RR companies cutting their workforce by about 30% in the last few years. Lets hope they can agree to the PEB recommendation and keep the trains running.
