Derryberry at quarterback, Ralston back and and big Upfront on both sides! could be good game! Webb City replacing their d line and Defensive backfield! A lot of new faces on the offense could make for an exciting game!

WC 35 CTOWN 14

Carthage is quietly better than they've been in years with Derryberry leading the charge. I agree with the result with Webb playing at home, but it could be closer with first game jitters and a fumble here or there.
Also, this could be a unique year, with Lamar, Webb, and Carthage all making the I-44 Pilgrimage over Thanksgiving break.

Everyone talks about Derryberry and the offense, and rightfully so. The defensive front is legit and if they let Darryberry play in the secondary again you better account for him every time you drop back to pass.

I would be making the RB's carry a ball all week in school! Every time it hits the ground it's a gasser! Ball security has been eye opening in the Soap scrimmage and the Jamboree!

Turnovers could weigh heavily on this game!

I think this could be one of Carthage's best teams and WC does still have some bugs to work out on offense. I think the O-line might take a little bit to hit their stride. Not sandbagging at all I think WC is in for a tough game Friday night. Not that unlikely that week 1-2 WC might see their toughest opponents the whole year. Not to say CJ won't be good because I think they will be good as well but I think Carthage is a legit Class 5 contender this year.

Until proven otherwise I'll take Webb by a couple scores. First game could potentially make things interesting though.

I'm waiting for the Nixa/Webb match-up. If you read Ozarks Sports Zone, Jordan Burton will lead you to believe the Tyler kid could beat anyone even if he's the only Nixa kid on the field. Crowned him MVP of the COC Large before the season even starts.

One of them on the OZone kickoff show called for Nixa to upset Webb this year. Bold move.

With him playing QB, LB, and the best HS kicker in the country i don't think that is a big stretch. That doesn't mean Nixa beats Webb. If he plays full time defense he will finish the season with 70+ tackles, 1,000+ rushing, 45 touchbacks, and a lot of kicking points. He's a well rounded football player. I haven't read any of that I'm just saying.

To get back to Carthage. How many of the Tigers go both ways? Think Webb just has Roy wr/mlb who does. With the weather 80 degrees Friday it will be packed and a great atmosphere. Last years game almost put me into a coma watching bc it was so hot and all we did was dive right and left. Looks like from the Jamboree with Carthage that both teams have some ball handling issues but that will all get worked out. Wish this game meant something like it did. I would love to stay in Class 4 but hey, maybe Carthage drops back down to us next year.

If the current trend of some 11 man teams dropping to 8 man continues I think you will see several schools including possibly Carthage drop back down a class.

I don't really know how many WC players start both ways but in the jamboree I saw several that had playing time both sides of the ball. I'm pretty sure a number of Carthage players go both ways, most notably Derryberry. Both teams will probably make some/more mistakes than they would make later in the year. That is pretty much universally true for week 1 games.

Friday has a forecast high of 81 but Saturday is forecast for 90 so while it is hot for football weather I don't think it will be as hot at kickoff as it easily could have been or what the players have been practicing in so I don't think that will be a huge factor.

WEBBie posters gettin old and soft? cTOWNS D upfront is legit? How do we know this, they haven't played yet. Their next to last game last season the Willard back had 250 yards and 5 tds. And the "WEBB has a lot of bugs to work out" come on man. 2nd year QB and tons of experience at RB. I think year in year out WEBB is always ready to take the field. Remember every year the saying about our opponents is always "they've gotten better" saying WEBB week 1 is as good as they are going to be!!! LOLjk but I expect WEBB to control this from the opening whistle. Only thing Im interested in seeing how good we are is in the defensive backfield. Offense will roll...
