Hats off to Coach Holt and players for getting Lathrop program turned around and to a great season so far. If my memory serves me, I do believe prior to the Lamar run, that Coach Holt was at Maryville and potentially ended the Lamar season with those teams for consecutive years. My history could be wrong, but adds to the upcoming game for sure. This should be a great game with very similar teams.

I think you are correct in that he coached Maryville the last year they were 2A. Maryville beat Lamar in a hard fought game.

Part Money grab part try a big school at a Suburban KC school Oak Park.

Chuck Literas did same thing went to Fort Osage after many successful years at Maryville.

Think that game gave those kids confidence that they could beat the best.

Also loved how that whole community came out to support their team. That game had an awesome atmosphere!!

That was the year that Lamar was 1-6 in the Big 8. But, when they started playoffs against other Class 2 schools, they got on a roll. They were 7-6 when they played Maryville. The game was tied 7-7 when a Lamar pass was called a lateral and returned for a Maryville touchdown.

So, late in the 4th quarter, with Lamar down 14-7, the Tigers were forced to go for a first down deep in Maryville territory. The Spoofhounds held, and a few plays later scored again to win 21-7.

The following week, Maryville easily won the state championship game.
