Yeah I never did get the deal with taking pitches to wear down a pitcher. You wear down a pitcher by beating his brains out jumping on every pitch he throws in the middle of the plate no matter the count.Well, in fairness, Mabry was a pretty awful MLB hitter. I struggle with how many pitches hitters took under his watch. I grew to miss the Big Mac theory of taking a hack at the first good pitch you see.
But I constantly hear ESPN people talk about how Red Sox and Yankee hitters go deep into counts and grind out each AB and make a pitcher throw X amount of pitches into the sixth inning. I like the more aggressive approach for the Cardinals but there is more than one philosophy that has proven success, i.e. Boston & NYY.yeah i never did get the deal with taking to itches to wear down a pitcher. I’m with you guys, too. That seems to be the best philosophy for this team. All I’m saying (as the devil’s advocate), is there’s more than one way to “skin a cat.” One size (philosophy) doesn’t fit all.I'm with 3R. If you hit enough balls hard you won't care how many pitches a pitcher throws.
Our guys had been taking too many pitches in the middle of the plate even when the count was in their favor and waaay too many when it wasn't then they had to try to do something with pitchers pitch.I’m with you guys, too.
