Was Dylan Cole recruited by Mizzou ?

I think Stec said he was on the short list of local guys at Mizzou but got beat out bc they didn't think he had a position, not quite a safety not quite a LB sort of thing.

I think he has put on about 40 lbs since he has been at MO St.

Thanks for the insights. I've seen some really good players this season in the Missouri Valley Conference that could have probably helped Mizzou.
Was Cole a preferred walk on at Missouri State ?

I believe he was a scholarship athlete; four year starter after red shirting.

If you saw him in high school you knew he was really good, but not sure even his biggest fans saw him developing into this.... Happy for him.

Another thing was he was a different player his senior year then he was as a junior in high school. When I saw him as a junior I never thought he would be a successful college player. When I saw him as a senior I changed my mind. Most bigger colleges are already recruiting you before your senior year, so he broke out late for bigger schools to find him.

Don't tell Mits that!
Dang straight! :D

I was obviously biased when I watched him in high school, but I always knew he was an FBS talent (I just thought it would be at RB). He scored more TDs than anyone in the state regardless of Class his senior year, and his body type reminded me of Darren McFadden back then (now it reminds me of Ray Lewis ;)).

Don't forget, too that he runs a 4.5-4.6 40 (he was a state finalist in the 100 meter his Junior and senior year); he's always had the meassurables :D

Wow ! Very impressive meassurables and development into an All America-type player. He is some kind of player. This kid may not have that type of speed, but he's been a productive tackling machine his last two seasons. He may end up playing down your way in the future. See what you think. If you can, please have Dylan take a look at games 1 thru 11. It's not that long. Thanks.

Pimping.

Small school, small town, not enough stars; just an intelegent, gifted athlete with a crazy work ethic...

...NFLdraftScout.com has him rated as the 11th best OLB eligible for the draft this year:

http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=129350&draftyear=2017&genpos=OLB
The "small school, small town" stuff doesn't work when your talking about a school that at one point had 2-3 class 1 o linemen starting at the same time (Braymer, Santa Fe, South Harrison). (one may have been class 2) or has a kid that will be drafted ins the 1-2 round this year that played 2 years of high school football at a Class 3 school. (Charles Harris, Lincoln Prep). Besides that, LR was a huge class 3 when he played and immediately went class 4. It's not like he was from Polo or Skyline or Monroe City....

Mits has a point that you'd be hard pressed to argue with. While LG may have been a "huge class 3 school", the facts are that white kids from rural communities get almost "0" looks, when inner city schools have access to the camps that recruiters can attend and see multiple prospects, all at once. They tend to focus on the "numbers" and the "measurables" and don't consider some of these kids and the work ethic they bring with them. How many of these kids who get D1 opportunities based on "measurables" end up squandering scholarships that some of these overlooked kids would have provided a better "return on investment", even if it was on a kick off team.

LHS, point very well taken. It's good that there are landing spots at the lower levels that provide opportunities for the under recruited, often rural, athletes.

Thanks LHSTiger81.

One thing I feel I should point out though is that I never mentioned race (white vs black), I just mentioned rural vs metro (Dylan Cole, for example, is not white yet still subject to this rural bias...)

And I don't think recruiters necessarily have anything against rural schools, it's just not a focus of rural school coaches and/or recruiters alike (to notice or get noticed these very capable athletes from rural areas...)

JJ Watt is a perfect example; 1 or 2 star recruit from Waukesha WI that was only recruited by small schools before transferring to Wisconsin from Centtal Michigan after proving himself ;ended up as a first round pick and the rest is history...)

Obviously, there are many more FBS players. But FCS/D2 is represented pretty well.
In 2015 "86.3 percent of players active on NFL rosters played at the FBS level; 7.7 percent at FCS; 3.8 percent in Division II." Kyle Bonagura ESPN
That's more than "a few at best".
I was beginning to think you knew football.

There were 90 D2 players on NFL rosters (active and practice squad) last season.

That's 90 out of a possible 1,920 players...if you do the math that's less than 5%.

I reiterate...there are a FEW, they are the exception, far from the rule.

And you don't feel your accusations are insulting? Some people seem to feel better about themselves by belittling others.

"Pimping". Why do you find it so hard to be the least bit happy for somebody's success? I would have been thrilled if you would have shared your success story in the competitive sport of football and recruiting.

You were the one who said pimping. I was just using YOUR adjective.

Think what you want. I couldn't care less what you think. You're probably another that has trouble with other's success.

That's just it, it's not YOUR success. If my dad had gotten on a message board obviously fishing for compliments I would have been mortified.

I mean, do what you want, but quit being disingenuous and admit what you're doing.

It just occurred to me, why should I care what you and some of your buddies think? What's your true status in the sports world? Maybe mostly just "MESSAGE BOARD TROUBLE MAKERS". Be proud ! Good bye!

Keep living through your kid, won't make up for your shortcomings.

I'd be interested in comparing y

It would be interesting to compare your athletic resume' to mine. Both as a high school and collegiate athlete and a high school coach. I don't need to ride anybody's coat tail. That's why your assumptions are so absurd.
If you feel what I've done is so horrible, maybe you need to get a grip on the real world, not just your trivial sports world.

Why so defensive? I'm just making an observation. Keep living through your kid, I'm sure he won't resent you for it.

That's where your wrong. I don't need to live through anybody. When someone actually accomplishes a lot on their own, they don't need to.
