Warrenton 16 - Festus 21 Final

For anyone in that district this was the year because the path won't be as clear next year. Kearney will be in the way earlier

Lots returning (2 QBs, RB, DL) but will miss those special LBs. Great current SOPH class, too. No tears at all here the better team won today and barely. Kearney just couldn't find anything that last drive and were only 10-15 yds. from trying a tying FG that had a chance.

I was high on Festus before season. They returned a lot of experience from a team who should've beaten Hillsboro (three score lead in districts) last year. They have really good defense and several good athletes with solid team speed. Warrenton's quarterback had to come out of the game due to an injury, which certainly benefitted Festus, although they still had the lead.

Good win for Festus. Generally speaking, their boys and girls dominated the JeffCo conference for years but seem to have been in a drought for the past decade. Except cross country and track.

They lost the rural Festus kids when Jefferson(Festus) opened up their high school. There was always a half dozen kids each year from out that way that helped booster those teams back in the day.

There is some truth to this, however being from the area, most of the Jefferson R-7 kids would go to Crystal City or Herculaneum. Those 2 programs were hurt much worse with the loss of the R-7 kids than Festus was.

Until 91, Herculaneum had very few R-7 kids. In 92 we started bringing the 8th grade from R-7 in for a tour of the school. Crystal City was hurt pretty bad but only a handful each year went to CC but that handful did make a difference. . Most of my R-7 friends in that time frame mostly went to Festus pre 93.
