Brian Smith Named Finalist For Social Media of the Year Award

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou wrestling head coach, Brian Smith, has been named a finalist for the 2014 ELSM/NWCA Social Media of the Year (SMOY) Awards, as announced today by Elite Level Sports Marketing group.
The SMOY Awards, founded during the 2012-13 season, are designed to honor individuals who have effectively built their personal and program brands throughout the year on social media. Coach Smith joins a total of 20 head coach nominees, and will compete in an online voting bracket to determine this year's winner.
Coach Smith has continually been a visible and active member of Mizzou wrestling's social media efforts. Currently, the team's Facebook page has over 8,600 likes and the program's Twitter page has over 6,700 followers. With the assistance of coach Smith, the remainder of the wrestling staff and Mizzou Athletics' strategic communications office; the wrestling program has enjoyed outstanding success in the world of social media.
This year's Battle Round bracket includes eight seeded head coaches and a five round Battle Round format designed to determine coaches with a strong social media following. Battle Round voting will start on Monday, June 30 with four first round match-ups that will run from 12:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Coach Smith is among the first round match-ups and will be squared up against Princeton's Chris Ayres.
Winners of the first round match-ups will advance to the second round, which will take place Tuesday, July 1. Quarterfinals for the SOMY Awards will occur on Wednesday, July 2, semifinals on Thursday, July 3 and the finals on Monday, July 7.
The overall winner of the SOMY awards will be announced at the 2014 NWCA Convention in Fort Lauderdale, Florida from August 1-3.
