Somebody post some predictions about the four classes and your projected winners @ Cape Girardeau. Thanks

Winners were Eminence over Valle
St. Pius over Fatima
Laffeyette over LSU
Didn't stay for the Villa D vs St pius KC game
Crowds were very small. If it doesn't get better the next 2 years Southeast Mo will never host the tournament again.
Valle of Ste Genevieve or Fatima had the biggest crowds.

SEMO Venue

Crowd for the 4A game, which featured a KC team and a STL team, was pathetic. Apparently the city kids only follow their teams from the city whenever they can get out of school to do it.

SEMO venue was eons better than the KC venue. Seating was closer to the action and lighting much better. Seemed like you was playing in a cavern in KC.

Would not punish the SEMO venue if the city folk don't want to travel. I am happy they are on the eastern side of the state and hope they stay for a long time. After Warrensburg and KC its time they stay over here for a while.

Watched 3 championship matches. Of the 4 on the day only 1 went 3.

2a - Fatima came out strong and looked like they were gonna blow St. Pius out of the gym in game 1; then went flat and never recovered losing in 2 straight

1a - The match everyone wanted to see last year but were not afforded due to a weird tie break, we get this year. Eminence came out and dominated Valle with a good all around game. Eminence just came out with many more offensive weapons for Valle to match.

4a - man the difference between 1a/2a and 4a is immense. Very entertaining game with Lafayette winning in 3 over Lee's Summit West. Bigger players, quicker game, big time hitting. Featured a timeout by LSW at 1-0 in game 2, and LSW out of timeouts at 7-3 (or there about). Some interesting coaching tactics there, that left me wondering how they even made it to game 3.

3a - VIlla D in 2 straight

Re: SEMO Venue

The coach must not know what she is doing since she has only won 8 state championships with two different schools in the two biggest classes. And she just took a third school in the largest class to the Final Four. I think she is the only coach in the state to do either of those things. Yes it is a wonder of how that team even got there!

Re: SEMO Venue

Sure she knows what she is doing. Having talent that goes to Iowa State and Stanford might have a little to do with it too. I'm not adverse to a coach demanding a lot from a player, but it was a little over the top in that match. Just an observation. Was more than a few in the stands commenting on it today. LSW never played with the confidence they needed.

Re: SEMO Venue

Sure any coach that wins state has to have talent but anyone that wins state that many times at any school they go to obviously knows what they are doing. I doubt she has had a player every year that goes to Stanford or Iowa State. Any team or coach that wins state especially in the top classes probably have a Division I player(s)

Re: SEMO Venue

I've never been to volleyball state till yesterday so I have nothing to compare it to. I thought the venue was fine. Only complaint was the concesions seemed to be limited/uninterested. It's like that at other events so I wasn't surprised.
The difference between even class 4 and 3 was amazing. Dont get me wrong. Villa and SP KC were good but the athleticism and play making skills from Lafayette and LSW were amazing.

They ought to move this tournament permanently to the Hearnes Center. If not, and it ever comes back to the west side (since football is permanently on the east side) the Independece Event Center would be a far better venue than Municipal .

Hanaway did pretty well with a team that returned just one starter, and one other in the regular rotation from last year. Although they added three JV players for the tournament their nine regular varsity team included three freshman. It was two different coaching styles in that championship. Lafayette was a loaded team that kind flew under the radar all year.

I watched the Class 1,2 and 4 matches.....and the venue was wonderful, compared to last year in Kansas City.
The crowd for the Fatima-St. Pius game was the biggest, followed closely by the Valle-Eminence crowd (And I am sure of this because I persuaded some bored teenagers with me to do a head count).
The crowds for the Class 3 and especially Class 4 games were, as somebody else said, pathetically small. What I don't understand is why more coaches and parents don't take their players to see these matches? For seven bucks you get to see many of the best players and coaches in the state. And it could give kids a taste of what could be theirs with hard work.

I thought Valle came out flat, and really didn't show the fire that got them to the top last year. Eminence pretty much walked all over them.
St. Pius was a classic case of the sum being greater than the total of its parts - with only one really stellar player, they scrapped their way to a title. Kudos to that coach for maximizing her talent.
Lee's Summit seemed to be a day late and a dollar short, despite that amazing Stanford kid. Lafayette just got the job done better.

Oh yeah, and the timeout when the score was 1-0? That was bizarre, I don't care how many whatsits you've won. Just a strange tactic, and one that had a lot of us in the crowd head-scratching.

I have to agree

LSW players were more worried about looking at the sideline than focus on playing for the championship. I think with a little less coach stomping and yelling LSW would of won. LSW middles were outstanding and junior outside was a force. Difference in this game was the coaching!

Re: I have to agree

Hanaway definitely knows her volleyball, and her record speaks for itself. But she's a spectacle on the sidelines. Stomping her feet, yelling at her players. She needs to stop drawing attention to herself and let the kids on the court be the focus.
