That is a nice accomplishment, but they lucked out to be in a really weak district. It's even luckier when you consider how good the three districts around them are. Viburnum came in as the #1 seed at 12-11 but then look at these districts right by them.
District 2= #1 Neelyville 21-4, #2 Alton 16-7, #3 Greenville 15-10, #4 Van Buren 18-8
District 4= #1 Clopton 21-4
District 9= #1 Crocker 22-2, # 2 Stoutland 15-3, #3 Hartville 20-6, #4 Plato 15-10, #5 Newburg, #6 Richland 14-11
Not to rain on Viburnum's success, but their district compared to district 2 and 9 is about as good an argument you can make for having both teams in district championship games move on to the state playoffs. The winner of a district plays the 2nd place team from its opposite district. I don't necessarily know if that would be better, but having seen several of the teams mentioned above including Viburnum, I can confidently say that Viburnum would have gotten crushed in any of those districts near them. Really all across middle and southern Missouri they would have lost badly. I don't know the north well enough, but I can't help but feel a little bad for those district 2 and 9 teams that are getting bounced, in the first round sometimes, while they could easily win Viburnum's district.
