Upsets on the Season

Mansfield should be a handful in their class, but Glendale is a much bigger school. Things can turn quickly in a big school if you get the right players to come out and play.

Hard to consider a class 6 beating a class 3 a big upset. I know Mansfield is pretty good though. It has to stink to be Mansfield and have one of your best teams but know Class 3 is so loaded in the area. I would say they are probably the 7 or 8th best team in the area in class 3.

Glendale has won 17 games in the last 4 years combined according to MSHSAA

I’ve found that in the ozarks, class size isn’t very relevant to talent or how good a team is.

It shows every year in the Pink & White tournament.
Not saying that large schools like Kickapoo don’t win it more often than others, but in Class 3 to 6 in girls ball in the Ozarks, if you have a good team, you have a good team and can usually compete pretty well regardless of class.

The Fair Grove tournament had 2 Class 4s, a 5 and a 6 in the winners bracket and it was very competitive.
The Class 6 lost to a Class 4 in the semi round.

Unless FG dropped to 3 and if so, then a C6 lost to a C3

Fair Grove is class 3. Your right your really good class 3 teams like Fair Grove, Strafford and Skyline have beat several class 6 schools. I just don't consider Mansfield on that level. I would consider Glendale's win over Willard as more impressive.

After seeing the Mansfield and Fair Grove score tonight I am inclined to believe that I expected Mansfield to be much better than they are right now.

I think Fair Grove is just really good. Miller who i think is a pretty good Class 2 school will have a rough time tonight against Fair Grove. 3 of Miller's 4 best players are freshman and they will struggle against the Fair Grove pressure. I expect about the same score.

No doubt FG is really good.

But Mansfield is underachieving. Last season they gave Ava and Licking all they wanted and they bring back a large majority of that team including their top 2 players from that team.

So while FG is really good, Mansfield should not be getting turbo clocked against them.

Mansfield returns 80% of their scoring from a 23-5 team so either Glendale and FG are just that good or something is up in Mansfield

This isn't an upset but since they were discussed earlier here Mansfield beat Miller last night.

Mansfield was better last night. Miller played with no energy. That was partly due to the team being pretty sick this weekend. They also got in serious foul trouble. I think Miller overall is a better team, just not last night. When you play a bunch of freshmen you will have ups and downs. Miller will lose several more times this season. I just hope they are playing good come districts.
