Currently, 4 of the top 12 teams in Class 4 are from the same district. Also, probably the 2 best Class 4 teams will hook up for a district championship. It would be nice if brackets could be set up to equalize the balance so great teams could face off later in the playoffs.

The good news is that the best team usually wins.

What is also unfortunate is that CJ and Webb could meet in the semifinals as West Plains and Camdenton will probably get multiple wins against 6A teams.

This line of thinking always makes me feel sick for Mt-View Liberty. If not for Lamar's run they would probably have at least 2-3 state titles, but instead they've never made it past the quarterfinals...

Same thing happens in almost every class, every year. The east side usually sucks and the state game should be played between two teams in the west. It is what it is.

If my math is right, and that's a big IF... I believe the bonus points available to WC and WP are equal. WP does play two class 6 schools but also play three class 4 games compared to WC playing just one class 4 game. If WC and WP win out it will come down to point differential and on strength of schedule.
Now if WC and WP slips up and losses a game it will be very interesting.

I'd be shocked if anyone in the OC wins out. I'd say Camdenton and WP seem to be a bit better than the others, but the gap doesn't seem to be that great. Wouldn't be surprised to see the OC winner with a couple losses.

Unfortunate but imagine the reality of seeding teams based on opinions of local media pundits who may have only seen short highlight reels of some but not all of the teams. You could get rid of districts altogether and create a statewide post season bracket tournament, with teams seeded by some kind of rpi/points system. But imagine the travel that could result. You'd have teams crisscrossing the state for weeks. People would be suggesting to break the tournament into regions to cut on travel early on - then we are basically back to having districts where WC, CJ, Camdenton, WP all in the SW region.

I do hate it for CJ that in many years they have to face the state champion even before they leave their district. I'm sure it's demoralizing to be a #2 ranked team and never get to play any kind of meaningful post season and the enjoyment and recognition that comes along with making a run, even if you don't make it all the way.

If memory serves me correct, I believe MSHSAA counts the Pittsburg Kansas game as a class four opponent as well.

Pittsburg only has 860 students... so they would bearly be Class4 in Missouri, so they count as a Class 4 opponent.

Also, in this Strength of Schedule portion of the formula, once again the COC teams (Webb and CJ) can get a slight edge over the OC teams (WP, Camdenton and Hillcrest).

Since the OC teams only play one another, their opponents are guaranteed to finish .500 (they only play each other).

Whereas in the COC, each team has one extra game and the COC is already 3-0 in those games the first 3 weeks. Remaining games are against Bolivar, Marshfield and Rogersville plus the two probable battles with Pittsburg (Webb and CJ). So it's likely the COC will be over .500 in their SOS (and maybe even 1.000 like they were last year with a perfect 9-0).

Doesn't matter if they are seen as class 3 or 4 when a MO Class 4 plays them. You don't lose points for playing down.

All the OC teams don't play each other right? If so even with an all conference schedule the strength of schedule could vary a little between the OC teams.

Just an absolute stupid post. Not even worth responding to other than that.
Let's see, since we're talking about how the CJ team might fare this year, then why go back 5 years? But if we do, the only class 2 team to beat CJ is Lamar, the six-time defending state champs. And CJ gave them their only losses during two of those seasons, in a pair of the tightest and highest quality high school football games I've ever seen.

Thinking about your comment, it's about as stupid as pointing out that Webb City struggles to beat or loses to Class 4 teams in the regular season. That would be a senseless point since they only played CJ and went 1-1 against them the past two years (similar to CJ's 1-1 record in their final two games with Lamar).

Dang, just wasted 5 minutes of my life I'll never get back. But you did ask politely.

Thanks.

My response was intended to correct another's statement that Webb only plays one Class 4 team. I may be wrong but I believe the Pittsburg game will be one more that they (as well as CJ) cannot get extra credit for.

Sorry for the confusion.

Just one example of how teams from "Kansas" are ranked higher than "Missouri" in a Top 25 Poll in KC even though they've played fewer games and weaker schedule.

Staley ranking was the one that caught my eye.
Any C6/C5 team from Kansas in this list would be hard pressed to keep them under 40+ points.

Moral to the story...
If you want a fair poll, move to Missouri.

Is that their 10-12 number or their 9-12? I believe that in KS the number they use to calculate classification is the grades 10-12 population (or rather 9-11 of the year they actually reclassify).
