The debt ceiling is a contrived political issue for both sides to complain about in order to get more publicity and point fingers at the other side. This is not the tea party republicans anymore. Trump is trying to push out all of the conservatives and going to keep taking away any position that they held strong too. So let's let him have this. Do away with the debt ceiling and stop bringing the country to its knees with these hollow threats.

You are right, Congress does waste time with this because it isn't actually a ceiling, given that they increase it at every opportunity. I'm just amazed at how quickly supposed "conservative" principles are thrown out the window at the whim of a guy who was a democrat most of his life.
