Sorry I recall we had a track times expert on this informational blog thing!
My question is why would a kid run track when they could be playing elite 7 on 7?
Mark Twain has one of the best 4x800 relay team in Class 2, Ben Chance from Bowling Green is the best overall track star in the area and Hannibal is the best overall team in the area and Centralia is also good too!!!
Kids today think you should be able to just cut across the track. It's a shame that's what society has created.
I've worked one in 20 years of teaching and coaching. That was enough. Oof. Like watching paint dry. And hell, frosh DGB ran in that one.
I like the phrase that the 3200 meter events were meet momentum killers. Back when I helped with track, it was agonizing to know we had to endure waiting through those runs before we could move along with other events. Paint drying is about right. While I guess it is a different type of competition, one would almost wish we could move those runs to a cross country course nearby. I know the relays would still have to be on the track however.
Just be happy you are talking about a high school event and not a college meet. You would really hate waiting on the 10K to finish.
My worst fears are my 3 yr old is going to be good at soccer...or distance running...or dance.

A good 10K time is around 30 minutes... I really don't want to chugalug..! Now I'm sure that Sheldon could polish off a 6 pack ! 🥴

These girls run the mile while chugging beer and pantless, I think this sort of thing would add excitement to a track meet.

I had a kid try to get out of the 2 mile by stabbing his foot with a knife. He still ran.
