Top...what are your thoughts on the Kearney season? Currently, they are ranked 6th in the district. By all measures, this is the worst season for K football in 18-19 years.
I still want the entire season to play out but here are a few key points:Top...what are your thoughts on the Kearney season? Currently, they are ranked 6th in the district. By all measures, this is the worst season for K football in 18-19 years.
Pretenders.
We all predict wrong from time to time but you, JN, did say K would be double digits wins this year with a district title at a minimum. I am assuming you thought the others in the area wouldn't be that good.............I don't think K ever pretended this was a season for a run. We are talking about the worst season in 20 years for a program with 4 state titles, 16 district titles and 15 conference championships.
There is, though, a District playoff anomaly to watch. Kearney moved back up to the #5 seed today ergo would go to Excelsior round 1. Win that one you suddenly are heading to the brand new Lincoln Prep stadium vs. an IL team playing lots of either down or smaller enrollment teams. Still two weeks left but this is something to watch.........I still want the entire season to play out but here are a few key points:
1) KEY INJURIES. These stick out more when you lack quality depth.
2) LACK OF IDENTITY. The offense, in particular, seems out of sorts like whomever is coaching that side of the ball either is over his head or doesn't trust the personnel.
3) LACK OF DEFENSIVE TALENT. This is mainly a size issue up front. That being said they do have one real good LB and some team speed BUT I often see kids getting caught out of position.............
4) PRESSURE. I cannot imagine what these coaches are going through this very trying season and frankly do not (and have said so for years) envy them.
5) UNREALISTIC EXPECTATIONS. This actually circles back to #4. I had them (invite all to look back on here) pegged for 4th in the Suburban Blue and all but expected them to regress in this third year since Jones exited stage left.
As for what I think would cure this situation that is a real puzzle.................at this point.

Let me go back to August threads and get back to you...............You have a creative memory. I thought K would be in the mix, but double D wins? Maybe 10 over Grandview. As bad as they are, they might be in the game with Smithville.
No. Smithville will win going away. Won't be in NWCMO Pick Em, players. You have a creative memory. I thought K would be in the mix, but double D wins? Maybe 10 over Grandview. As bad as they are, they might be in the game with Smithville.
Smithville will be reeling after they lost to Grandview this week.No. Smithville will win going away. Won't be in NWCMO Pick Em, players.

That was suggested back in 2017. At this point would say I lean 75 percent toward that being the case.............Tophat, you ever think Jones saw the future and felt the time was right to move on?
From what I am aware that is correct.I had heard Smithvilles RB did not play last week against Tonka, any truth to this?
I thought hard about adding this one to Pick Em actually. Grandview is certainly not the pushover they were just a few years ago.Smithville will be reeling after they lost to Grandview this week.
Actually for Pick Em will watch the Smithville RB Miller's availability etc. Without him the needle moves on this one..................No. Smithville will win going away. Won't be in NWCMO Pick Em, players.
Yeah. Probably soI don't think K ever pretended this was a season for a run. We are talking about the worst season in 20 years for a program with 4 state titles, 16 district titles and 15 conference championships.
