Thought it was against the rules to transfer schools for athletic reasons

Reporters embellish stories. Nobody moves to a school exclusively for a scholarship and moving to Maryville and living the small town life has to be connected with a job.
He was hoping for a DI offer, and Division 2 doesn't grant full rides. Oh well.

his dad works for Maryville, so he can move there and not be ineligible, but he did move for sports, it's good that he gets a chance at the next level, king city had a good team this year, imagine if he would have stayed

Moving and Job are key words here. You don't have to move to be recognized as a good player. Colleges are full of good high school football players from all classes.

yes, idk if the family moved or still lives in kc, but his dad works for the school so he is elgible

I don't believe there is a real rule that you're eligible at a school outside your district because a parent works there but it has been done as long as I can remember. Maybe it has been a made a rule, I don't know.

I think you can still live where ever you want to live and attend that school and play for that team. I don't think Obama has changed that yet.

I know lots of kids go to the school their parents work for without moving, I just don't know if it's ever been made a rule that they can. It's always been more a of an 'understanding' kinda thang.

This doesn't pertain to this incident since a parents works for the school, but it is against the rules to move for academic purposes, and if the district you move from chooses to do so, they can flag the student athlete and make them ineligible for a year.. Happened at Staley a few years ago when Trent Hosick moved from Ozark

They did move here, they do work here, he does attend school here.......I know Savannahstud69 was just trying to stir the pot as he has done for the last 7 or 8 years because he has a feud with Maryville. That's what this thread was all about.

If it is a "full family move" then he becomes instantly eligible.

That is not necessarily true. Here is the rule directly from the MSHSAA handbook. Highlight is MSHSAA's:

3.10.4 Transfer of Enrollment Requirements: Students who transfer schools or do not meet the requirements of residency upon enrollment at the school as outlined above are ineligible for 365 days unless their cases meet the standards under the EXCEPTIONS THAT FOLLOW:
a. Exception 1 - Corresponding Full-Family Change of Residence: If there is a corresponding change of residence of parents/family, from the attendance district of the school where a student has been enrolled to the new district, the student may be eligible as soon as the transfer of eligibility is approved by the MSHSAA office. For the purpose of this provision, if the districts served by the two schools overlap, the term “new district” shall mean a district in which the original residence was not located. The purpose of this section shall be to avoid any loss of eligibility when parents transfer residence to a new district for other than athletic reasons
