It is a problem that there's no one on our bench who can hit but that's not an excuse to send Martinez up there with no outs in the seventh in a one run game. That was our chance to go for the kill

In this instance I have to agree with u NM but you will never convince me that MM is a bad MGR just as I will never convince that he is the right man for the job!!!!!!!! I think MO has let the team down this year by not getting an RBI man to hit 4th which he new was our biggest weakness. Instead he went and got a + WAR punch and judy player. There were RBI guys on the market and he ignored them because they didn't have great WARss

The bunt is going up in value as games become lower scoring

But we needed two runs, not one there and we had Wong up next - no reason to play for one run there.

I was speaking in general about the bunt. Not this game with first and third and no outs . We are not good at stealing bases, only Yadi will hit and run. I don't remember us ever squeezing in a run and our pitchers suck at bunting.

Not perfect???? Last I saw he has been thrown out more times than he's been safe. With his speed that is ridiculous. He's a waste of a roster spot.

He's not perfect but he's better than most people on the roster not named heyward or Wong. He's also more likely to score from first on a double.

You have to get on 1st first, they should NOT waste a roster spot for a pinch runner. I can't see any good reason to put him the playoff roster. No need for him as a defensive replacement late in a game with the current crop of guys playing ahead of him and should at least be on the bench when Holliday, Jay and Grichuk return. Too many guys ahead of him, he should be gone before next season. Jay could very well be odd man out too unless Grichuk continues to have injury issues.

A pinch runner/defensive backup has more value in the playoffs. You don't need a fifth starter and you don't need as deep a pen with all the off days.

This is why I put him on the roster over Jay in the other thread. Again, assuming City and others are back healthy. Defense/running becomes more valuable. Which I guess begs why I put Garcia on over Koz. It's simple, I hate Koz about as much as I did Miles. But I think he's got nudes of someone in the organization. No other explanation for him eating up a roster spot.

Not in the playoffs, and not if they only carry 11 pitchers...but they'll carry 12. MM might have to actually manage if they didn't do that. PB has some real value (defense, baserunning, bunting) for the playoffs.

He is no better on defense than Grichuk or Piscotty...Opinion statement that I disagree with. The Piscotty argument is moot merely b/c he doesn't play CF. Both run pretty dang well, hit a heck of a lot better and for some power. Somebody will be on the bench that has been starting when Holliday comes back and it does NOT need to be Bourjos...Both do run well, but if one is on the bench, they don't get burned for a PR. They hit. Bourjos is that option. And there is no need for 12 or 13 pitchers...so it leaves plenty of room for him. Both players you mentioned were already on the playoff roster I mentioned in the other thread.

Why, so he can get thrown out stealing or NOT take the extra base when he should? For a guy with his speed he is a terrible base runner. I amazed you like him at all. You hate guys like Jay and Miles that hit .300 but don't hit HR's or drive in 100 but you want Bourjos on the roster.

Bourjos has physical skills but he certainly hasn't been effective in his limited role. He and Wong are very poor base stealers in my opinion.
