Gave up a lot of prospects for Cueto and Zobrist. They are hungry to win it all. How refreshing.

They are in no way in a better position than the Cards. They know this is going to be they're only the next few years.

Exactly. There are no guarantees for next year or thereafter. With a move or two we can be prohibitive favorites. Right now the playoffs will be a crap shoot.

In a mythical world. That is not how MO works now. Royals have a lot of contracts coming up the next few years. Like I said, they are in a situation where it's now or never. I'm not sure why you would want to mortgage the farm(an more importantly on who?) when the future still looks really bright for the Cards. They will have a lot of contracts coming up with Heyward and a lot of younger guys that will need to be paid.

It rarely if ever works. Name the last major deadline deal that panned out to a WS ring????

It has happened a ton short timer.
This shows how spoiled your generation of cards fans are. There is no guarantee this will continue. We need to strike now.

In 68, I thought the Cards would be in the WS every year. We were loaded. Strange things happen. I had to wait 14 years. That's the norm. You are spoiled.

The playoffs are a crapshoot for the most part. You deal to get into the playoffs moreso than you deal to get better when you're guaranteed to be in.

What are you talking about? I grew up in the 90's. You're the one whining every d*** season non stop. I'm taking the rational approach. Who the hell are you going to get and for what?

You think you know better than MO?

Again tell me the last major deal at deadline that resulted in a World Series?

Do you have any idea how annoying that motion picture you have playing on your posts is?

Larry Walker, Jim Edmond's, Cesar Cedeno.
That list took me five seconds. If I really think about it, it's bigger bro. But nice try.

Woody Williams 2001 led to playoff birth.
as he went 7-1 down the stretch.

Matt Holliday 2009. Part of WS teams.

July 97 McGwire. June 64 Brock.
Seems like these guys kind of made an impact on the franchise.

I, as an ardent long term (not one who just "discovered" them the past couple of seasons) Royals fan, am very cautiously optimistic. NO guarantees any player will stay healthy the rest of the season plus not sure rental players will put them over a top they were just 90 feet away from last October (in the AL watch out for the Angels and, makes me choke to say it, Yankees i.e. ARoids).

Cueto is a huge, necessary move which will help save the bullpen long term and Zobrist will be a good, reliable utility player Ned can use to give Escobar/Infante etc. much needed days off down the stretch.

As for the Royals just being here for the short haul I wouldn't be so sure...................as long as they continue to have the massive gate they currently enjoy and good TV ratings albeit for a limited market the ole WalMart man David Glass will be in a much better position to pay to keep the core of the team.

You're bringing up guys that worked long term but was referencing the now when talking about the Royals.

Again, name a major deal at deadline that worked that same season for a WS ring.

Heyward would fit the mold of the guys you are referring to.

I am an educator.

Jeff Weaver 2006 Cardinals
Furcal, Jackson, Dotel 2011 Cardinals
Javier Lopez 2010 Giants
Marco Scutoro, Hunter Pence 2012 Giants
Jake Peavy 2014 Giants
Orlando Cabrera 2004 Boston Red Sox.
I'm getting tired. I need a nap.

I don't see how Zobrist doesn't play everyday. He'll be in there everyday until Gordon comes back, obviously. And after that, he's your best option in both RF and 2B. Just pick one. Dude is solid. Always wanted to see him with the Birds on Bat across his chest.

The real value of the guys we got was that they allowed us to make the playoffs. Which gets back to my point above - you control your ability to get to October. Once you're there...it's a crapshoot, and spending a bunch of prospects to slightly increase your chances of winning in one year by 1%-2% is not a good plan for most teams when you look at how much harder it makes it to come back to the playoffs in future years.

The Cards core is solid but our minor leagues are gutted. We don't have the future resources to trade.

Forgot about Orlando. Ok you have one major trade.

The rest are not what you're referring to. Those guys are not Tulo or Hamels etc.

And MO isn't making those type of trades at deadline. He'll make the trades like 2011 with Rasmus.

Ok. There really aren't that many big names traded at the deadline. Generally speaking.
