Mizzou Looks To Continue Historic Season

The Tigers are seeking their third consecutive MAC Championships title this weekend, and fourth straight conference championship overall (began with 2012 Big 12 Championship). Mizzou enters competition Saturday as the newly minted No. 1 team in the country, after claiming the 2015 NWCA National Duals Finals championship on Feb. 22 in Iowa City, Iowa.

Mizzou took down No. 12 Illinois (23-13), No. 11 Lehigh (23-9), and then-No. 1 Iowa (18-12) in succession to take home the tournament's top honor. The Tigers' historical 24-0 regular season included a perfect 8-0 record against MAC opponents. Mizzou's dominance over MAC foes surfaced in the 2015 MAC Championships pre-seeding meeting, as they came away with six No. 1 seeds and three No. 2 seeds.

Tiger Style Grapplers Claim Top Spots In MAC Championships Seedings

Leading the way into this weekend are No. 1 seeds in redshirt senior Alan Waters (27-0), redshirt sophomore Zach Synon (28-11), redshirt senior Drake Houdashelt (29-1), redshirt senior Johnny Eblen (25-4), redshirt freshman Willie Miklus (26-6) and sophomore J'den Cox (30-0).

Despite having a 30-1 record this season and No. 5 ranking in the nation at 141 pounds, redshirt sophomore Lavion Mayes enters this weekend as the No. 2 seed in the tournament. He only trails Central Michigan's Zach Horan, as he fell to him on Jan. 17 by 9-5 (SV1) decision.

A Look Back At 2014 MAC Championships

At last season's MAC Championships, the Tigers took home the team title and two individual crowns (149 - Houdashelt and 197 - Cox). The win by Houdashelt was his third conference title (2012 Big 12, 2013 & 2014 MAC), while the top honor by Cox marked his first career conference crown.

The team win in Kent, Ohio came down to the wire, as their 118.5 team points edged second place Northern Iowa by just 2.5 points.
