Yet they have drafted incredibly.
They are 18 games better than STL right now.

Their picks turn into studs.
Stl picks turn into Piscotty.
Stl signings turn out to be Diaz.

Hind sight is great, but how does Cecil move ahead of Rosie to earn saves. Uhgg RISP killed the Birds today again. No use trading assets because this team sucks, but I would start playing them everyday.

I would trade two of Gyorko, Carp, and Fowler and GET A DAMN DEFENSIVE SHORTSTOP!!!!!!! Then let the young athletic prospects play the rest of this season.

Seems to me they need a closer!!!! What the heck does Cmart have to do to get a win? The pen has killed him!!!

I am not talking specifically about todays game. But generally I would just like to say Mr Matheny its not against the rules to let someone who is throwing well pitch two innings and if a guy throws some fat ones down the middle its ok to take him out before he completely blows the game.

Alex Reyes? Carlos Martinez? Taveras was an all world prospect until he drove drunk. Honestly, I think this is unfair. The Cards are finding plenty of high level talent. I do wish they had bought that last international guy before their signing ban came into effect, though.

The Dodgers are a special case, and not a really fair benchmark.

I'm more concerned about what they've done in FA and with their overall roster construction choices. They seem to keep pumping out decent players from the minors, though.

I'm of the opinion that I kind of hope they continue to lose so they get rid of MM. Never thought I would be typing this,
Sorry, but I think we're being unfair and harsh about last night's decision. Rosie faced the toughest part of the lineup in the 8th. Best reliever to face their best hitters. Cecil has been shut down good since about mid-May or so. You mean to tell me you wouldn't think he could get through the bottom part of their lineup? I agree that MM does some REALLY stupid things sometimes, but last night wasn't one of them to me. Players have to perform too.

I'm just tired of all this bad baseball. I actually blame MO and DeWitt just as much as I do MM. This team has been going down hill for over year now. The trade dead line is right around the corner. I t will be telling to me to see if they go out and improve the team in a big way as opposed to messing around the edge.

First two guys up in the 8th were lefties. Why not use Cecil then? Or Tyler Lyons (who is awesome against them?) Put a lefty in for them with the plan to bring in Rosie against McCutchen. Then let Rosie finish the game with Cecil/Oh/Bowman as backup plans.

Pirates hitters 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7 are all about the same. McC is the only guy you worry about. Don't need to put Rosie in too early when you may need him in a tough spot in the 9th

I think Rosie that was the 3rd day in a row for Rosie, they had been reluctant to use him back to back days. Probably not a good time use him for 2 innings. Goinlong is right, Cecil had a long string of scoreless innings, no reason not to give himshot. It didn't work out so I'd bet he doesn't get that chance again any time soon.

So much my vast knowledge, they're giving Cecil the ball in the 9th again. Hope it works out better this time.

I never thought at the beginning of the year that the 9th inning would be such a problem:eek::eek:
Why can't major league pitchers hot a spot, or even come close sometimes? Yadi gave him a target low and away and he threw the ball high and in the middle of the plate. I had better control that that when I was 12. My 35 mph fastball got a lot of outs. :p At least he got an out after the walk.

Cespedes gift wrapped that one for us. That was ball 4 from Cecil on 3-0. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good...

We better be very lucky, because we aren't very good.
New cap?

Well at least Wacha was very good tonight. His arm may fall off during his next bullpen session but he sure was good in this game.
Again if we had a closer we would be 5-0 since the break. Rosie has to grab that job and run with it.

I sure wish he would be that guy again, but he was pretty scary most of the time with a 1 run lead.

I suppose Oh for a little while was a close to a shutdown closer we've had for awhile. One of those guys who you knew it was over when he came in. But he couldn't sustain it. Motte in 2012 was the last before him to have under 1.0 whip for the year. Mujica was close. Rosey had a lot of saves for a couple years but always walked a bunch too.

Did other teams finally get a book on Oh and are forcing him to do something different or has he just lost the ability to put it where he wants? He went from .9 whip to 1.4 this year. In half as many innings he's already given up more runs. Ks are way down. He just doesn't fool anyone anymore.

No one could hit his slider last year. He had an astronomical swing and miss rate on that pitch. This year, the magic is gone.

It would be interesting to see if hitters are just laying off it now that they've seen him more and know more about him or if he just isn't throwing it the same and they're hitting it. I'd guess probably a little of both.

Don't you have to just put Rosey back in the closer role and let him go for awhile? They don't have time for Oh to figure it out at this point. Rosey may not get it done either but at least he has before. He's throwing hard. Maybe he gets hot the rest of the year. If not it won't matter and might not anyway.

If it were me, yeah, Rosie has pretty clearly been our best reliever. He's striking out an absurd % of batters while limiting the walks enough. I would go with him.

It seems pretty obvious at this point that he deserves to be the guy.

Oh and Rosie are not groundball type pitchers and if guys get it in the air this year it seems to go a long way. Rosie is much more likely to throw it by hitters. Everybody that talks about it says the ball is extremely hard and I guess a lot of hitters have bought into the launch angle thang. That combination seems to have led to a crazy amount of HR's and LONG HR's this season, even the little guys are hittin bombs.

Rosie is very, very good at preventing HR. Always has been. 16 HR allowed in 313 major league innings. That's crazy good.

His issue is keeping it over the plate.

Piscotty was aquired in a trade, he was not a Cardinal draft pick.
