A member of the Big 8 has represented Class 3 in the Show-Me Bowl for six of the last nine years, and only one of those six appearances was a repeat appearance (Cassville); so five different Big 8 teams have been to the Class 3 Show-Me Bowl in the last nine years (one of them twice)...

...and among those six appearances, the Big 8 has four Class 3 titles...

I say because right now, four of the top ten teams (AP) in Class 3 are from the Big 8!

The consistency in the Big 8 is really remarkable

Yes this year has been hard for me, I still follow class 3 like it affects us, but unfortunately Monett is now class 4. We also are in the same District with Webb...so we are going to have to strap it up and see if we can step up to the challenge in the the next few years.

Good luck to Monett

Class 4 just seems so odd to say....but I still remember in 1980 Monett had recently moved to class 3, I was in 7th grade and I remember looking up at the top of Burl Fowler stadium at the Banner that said 1977 2A state champs and it seemed so long ago to my young mind.

You can thank the expanding businesses in Monett for the class jumping.

Hasn't the Big 8 had a representative for class 2 in the show me bowl for the past 7 years, and the class 2 final for for 9?

In all seriousness their run in class 3 is remarkable and hope to see it happen for another year.

In what other conferences does a class 2 teams play a schedule that full of class 3 and class 4 teams year in and year out

St Joe Leblond is now a class 1 school that plays all class 3 and 4 teams in the MEC.

But need to find a new conference for football. They been overmatched last few years.

The Big 8 top to bottom in most years is probably the toughest predominantly class 3 conference in the state. Most years everyone is pretty evenly matched, and it usually comes down to coaching to find a way to win. Certain schools in the state moving up or down in classes has really made it possible for a big 8 representative to make it to the show me bowl on a consistent basis whether or not that team really be a great team or not. Cassville has a legit shot to bring it home again this year if they can stay healthy.

I like the point you make. Coaching has played a big part in it. Monett had a team 2 years ago, that had a good defense, and just enough offense to get it done. Mt Vernon was just the opposite last year, good offense, marginal defense. The coaches can get a marginal team through games when the talent is close.

I think the best example is the 08 and 09 cAssville wildcats. Without Large those teams don't make it out of districts.

2008 I agree with. You could argue that Monett had more talent. 2009 I don't really agree with that statement. Cassville was quite a bit better than anyone else in the district. Same for 2010 when they lost in the semi's.

2009 cAssville would lose to Branson 42-13 who would get beat by Log Rog the next week 33-19. Log Rog was the better team, cAssville just snuck by them in the play offs with the help of Large's coaching.

Cassville also ran into some luck with the 2008 reclassifications. Harrisonville went to Class 4 and Maryville dropped to Class 2.

I agree with that........and actually if you look at the Big 8 while Harrisonville was class 3 you see several more teams that would have made it to the final if not for Harrisonville. Monett 07, MV 06, Cassville 05 just off the top of my head likely would have represented that side of the bracket if not for Harrisonville. Cassville in 05 and MV 06 was probably the number 2 teams in the state both of those years. MV had Harrisonville beat in 06. Interesting Cassville and MV didn't play in 06 because of a wreck the night of the game. They were in opposite districts and Cassville dropped a district game blowing a 28-0 late 2nd qtr lead.

I’m still convinced that that LR team (and not their state title team) was the best and most complete LR team I’ve ever seen.

I also think Maryville moving down didn’t affect Cassville in the least that year; Cassville turboed Lamar that year, while Maryville only beat that same .500 Lamar team 21-7 (only leading 14-7 going into the 4th quarter...)

The 2009 Cassville LR game is one of the best high school games that I've watched.

It was magical

I’d say Seneca gave Cassville everything they wanted in 2009 both times they played them ! First game was 24-13 with Cassville scored late to put it away and 17-7 the 2nd time around. I’d also say they might not have gotten around LR but Seneca and Monett more then likely would have beaten O’Hara and Bowling green!

Bowling Green was pretty decent. I think they may very well have beat Cassville if not for a hit the QB took right before halftime. It was clean and it was from his backside. He didn't play the same after that.

You are correct Seneca did play Cassville tight in 2009. I think Cassville wins that game 8 out of 10 times though. I think LR is a 50/50 game. Monett, Cassville wins 9 out of 10 that year. All I meant by saying they were quite a bit better than anyone else in districts that year.

08 Monexico was probably better than 16 Monexico. 08 Cassville beat 08 Monexico. So, 08 Cassville was better than 16 Monexico............geez that made me dizzy.
