Tatum and Anderson

Anderson has said he doesn't want to try and recruit 5 star kids who MU really doesn't have a chance to get. I get that, I never thought Tatum would come to MU no matter how hard they recruited him. I had hoped Anderson would have pushed to get Tyler Cook, a four star kid with a lot of up side. These kids still have one more year in high school and a lot can change. Anderson needs to hire a new coach, I think one with D1 experience, but most of all a guy who can recruit and sell the program. I'm not real confident in Loos and Fulford. Don't be surprised if Tatum picks SLU.

Re: Tatum and Anderson ( Coach Justin Tatum was holding the key )

Missouri has a chance to recruit Jayson Tatum if the CBC coach Justin Tatum were employed as an asst basketball coach @ Missouri. This possibility was reported on MoSports last year. I believe this could have opened up a pipe line for Missouri's top talent including Cook and Tatum from Chaminade high school.

StL folks give SLU WAAAAAYYYY to much credit. average Mid major that had a couple good years.

I realize that. That is why I asked the question...When you are supposedly that good, you're not going to a school like that just because your dad did(i.e. Tyler Hansbrough).

I'm not giving that much credit to SLU..............I heard Tatum's family would like him close to home, very close to his grand parents. Are you saying if he picks SLU he's not NBA talent? He goes to the NBA if he picks SEMO.

Gant was Georgia's Mr. basketball..........why did he pick Mizzou? Sometimes it's what the kid wants, sometime it's what the family wants, there are a lot of great players who could have picked Duke, KY, NC and didn't, but like you I wish the Tigers could get some of them.

I think this is odd for two reasons:

What message is he sending to fans and other kids about what the program aspires to be? We aspire to not be a top tier team?

There's value in being on the scene for other kids. You need those relationships with coaches and other figures.

Gant was a 4 star. A fringe top 50 kid. Not even in the same area code as Tatum. And it's not like UGA or GaTech are stellar programs. Gant probably picked MU because they were one of the top programs to offer where he thought he could go and play right away. It's not like he had offers from Duke/UNC/UK. I think his best offers were Indiana and Cuse. Neither programs are anything to sneeze at, but both have their issues.

At the time of Gant's recruitment, Indiana was coming off of back to back Sweet 16 seasons and Syracuse had just gone to the FInal Four.

Your hate for Haith blinds you.

Couldn't possibly agree more. I'm going to reserve judgement for now because we don't really know for sure how much effort MU put into recruiting Tatum. However, if what is being reported is true, that is among the low water marks for the program IMO.

Even if you don't get him, you at least try. In the process, you might build critical relationships that could prove to be beneficial in the future.

If the idea that the time spent recruiting a five-star kid could be better spent recruiting some else (which I don't really buy), well, that strategy hasn't exactly proven to be overly productive either.

I don't really want a coach that is breaking the rules, but at the same time, I don't want a coach who isn't even going to be bothered to recruit five star kids IN HIS OWN STATE. We should be doing everything possible to keep Tatum and Porter home within the rules, and if it doesn't work out, then so be it.

Pick SLU with nba talent.
2. I do not think IMO that tatum is a KA kid. Not because of the talent, because he is very talented, but from what I saw with him getting a T and his actions and demeanor would clash with coach. Again, IMO. I hope both have very successful careers. Do I think he chooses SLU? No. Is it a possibility, yes. Like was said, there is still a lot of time to change minds, both KA and JT.

Hughes had some significant family issues that he wanted to be in stl for. Doubtful he would have stayed without them.

When Kim Anderson was in high school I remember the night he and Warren Williams from Mexico got into a fight in a game. I think he understands kids LOL.

I'm not saying that. Why do all of the great players from Missouri leave to play for UNC, Duke, or Kansas?
Because of 24 hour sports channels that gush all over them year-in and year-out. Missouri is not alone in that situation. Roy Boy took Harrison Barnes and Marcus Paige out of Iowa to NC and several other first round NBA players from the state to KU earlier. Many examples from all over the country.

They are consistently good programs so they get the attention nationally. Plus these days with Skype and all the other ways to stay in touch with home, it's not that big a deal to go away to build exposure and get that NBA contract makes it all worth it.

Past is past. Just that. Both programs were obviously going in the other direction after their runs. Indiana was set to take a step back, and Gant wasn't going to change that. The probe at Cuse had already started. That said, I mentioned both as the top schools to recruit Gant. The list, beyond those two, was pretty pedestrian. He was a good get for MU, but let us not confuse ourselves in believing competing for his services was on the level of a Tatum.

Was someone saying he was? Just pointing out Haith beat out two blue blood schools for his services.

metro, isn't there still an opening on the staff?

Wonder if Coach Tatum would be interested.

Thought that was what Pure Swing was eluding to. Maybe not.
