The targeting penalty and subsequent ejection in the Michigan game shows just how absurd that call has become.

They reviewed the call, which clearly shows Michigan's leading tackler being blocked and knocked into the prone QB and landing head to head cost Michigan 15 yards, their best LBer, and set up MSU's TD. Just bogus.

I believe it IS out of control as well. From high school to college. I have see 1 ejection for open hand thrust to blockers breast plate during live play. Official "saw it" (no mr. official, you saw part of it.) I also despise the implementation (INCONSISTENT, ney, VERY INCONSISTANT) of the helmet to helmet & targeting. WAY TOO MANY MISTAKES by refs. (The above is probably more applicable to hi school.)

One good thing about them is they are video replayed before ejecting. Bad thing is even if they overturn it and the player isnt ejected the penalty yards are still enforced, HUH? Do not understand that. I agree for safety reasons lowering your helmet and earholing a reciever should be penalized. I hate the "hitting a defenseless reciever" penalty. Your job is to defend that reception, break it up but if you have to allow the guy the catch and a safe landing on the ground that takes away your job. As long as its a legal body to body blow I dont get it.
