Swmo small class has a down year

When's the last time swmo class 1 2 and 3 didn't get at least one title?

I was really surprised by that. Anything can happen when you get in the playoffs. None of the swmo losses were flukes or outlier type losses either.

In class 1 Walnut Grove will be down and not sure if there is any local teams that can challenge for a state title next year. Class 2 Blue Eye and Miller (will drop back down) have most of their starters back and in Class 3 Skyline should be the favorite with most everyone back. Sparta and Strafford will be good too with almost all their starters back.

I always root for SWMO teams but the state championship/final four teams will have most if not all of their best players back. Ellington, the class 2 champs, returns virtually everyone. Ditto Wellington. Class one champ won’t come from this area next yr with Walnut Grove being down. I bet Jefferson Conception repeats. Leeton returns all their best players as well.

Strafford could move up to 4 which would probably give them a better shot at winning it all than if they remain 3. 3 is weakened significantly if Miller moves back down to 2 and Strafford moves up. Skyline would then have a great shot at winning in 3. They got to go north this yr and avoid the strong SWMO teams to reach the final four. Sparta a strong class 3 team as well assuming everyone comes back.

Class 4 won’t be strong in this area especially if Strafford doesn’t move up. Toughest class 4 teams in SWMO will be Eldo, Ava, maybe Willow Springs. Mt Vernon will be down with Stokes and Johnston gone

How sure are you that Miller moves back down? What will the reason be? Large senior class graduating, small incoming freshman class?

It is all a guessing game. We don’t know who is transferring where yet.

They had a big class and it bumped them up this year (150 kids)I talked to an administrator who said their numbers are back down in the upper 130’s.
