How often does this happen? What do you think the Coach would need to do in order to get suspended?

I'm assuming your scenario is regarding a h.s. coach. If so, are you asking about what a coach could do or say during a game or non-game situation?

all kinds of things...take your pick

going off on an official
berating a kid
dishonesty
willful cheating
various forms of misconduct
inappropriate relations with students
etc etc

going off on an official - Not necessarily. Depends on what was said, how it was said, and the situation.

dishonesty - Not necessarily. Depends on the scenario.
willful cheating - Probably.
various forms of misconduct - Not necessarily. Depends the misconduct - need specifics.
inappropriate relations with students - Probably not cause for suspension, rather, a firing.
etc etc

Could be something as simple as a suspension while a claim is being investigated. Have seen that before and nothing found. Also saw a situation where a coach got a little physical with another coach after a game. Nothing crazy, push or a shove, and that got a week or two. Lots and lots and lots of reasons. Some could easily vary by districts as well. Don't always assume the worst.

You should always assume the worst!! If you dont, youll find yourself fumbling in your own end zone, while the other team recovers, and win the game!!

Well a couple years ago JROD got suspended for one game, he had got one flag for getting a bit irritated , when he backed off if I remember right Smitty took over and when he got a flag its actually on the head coach so john was gone for a week. I still think Smitty did it just so he could call plays for a week :)

Ummm ... I think you forgot which kid. In a lot of communities, that might be the only factor that matters.

As WCFanforever mentioned - if the head coach gets a couple of unsportsmanlike penalties during a game by MSHSAA rules, he has to sit out a game. I have seen that happen a couple of times. I remember a coach having to sit out a game because the local paper printed a picture of his team the first day of practice and his boys were in full gear. The school confessed their mistake. MSHSAA let him decide which game to sit out of.

Not suspended but fired happen to the head coach at Maryville few years back.

He had found out a student (not a football player) was banging a female teacher. The teachers son was the qb of the team. They were in playoffs. Didn't want the distraction so waited till after the season to tell administrators.

yes, he was fired by the school board, that waited for the school board members that were on his side to be out of town then held a meeting so it could be done, I don't think that is this, I think it is suspension from a game

I was working at the Missourian back then, this all makes so much more sense.
