whats best for the USA

quick and done.

baseball is a team game. . . let the Houston bench/team respond to losing one man

he's replaced in 5 seconds. .the time to write a name on a line up card.

Yuli Gurriel, the Houston Astros first baseman who was seen making a racist gesture in the dugout during Game 3 of the World Series on Friday night, has been given a five-game suspension without pay that will begin at the start of the 2018 season.

The suspension, which was handed down by Rob Manfred, the commissioner of Major League Baseball,

I'd bet missing just 1 WS game for doing something stupid would mean more to him than missing the first 5 of the next season. Send a real message!

Maybe, and just maybe, it's not that big of a deal. Hammer him with a big fine and send it to some charity for that sort of thing. Spend some time in a training and be done with it. At least that generates something positive out of it.

If they suspend him now he just protests it and it goes to arbitration and nothing happens until next year anyway.

Good luck getting the union to bargain that away.
I didn't say it would happen. He can get his due process when what he does is NOT on national TV for all to see, and in the WS no less. What could possibly show up in this due process that would change anything about this case? How many cases that are protested end up showing he is innocent?

That's not how the union is going to see it.

And, the teams generally like the ability to game the appeal process to ensure the suspensions occur at favorable times.
