I think you give MM way too much credit there. PB has buried on the bench for more than a month. Pham is PB down the stretch. MM manages on gut feel, and he probably had one there. That one is 50/50 at best. But the way PB has been going, I'd have bunted. But I see NM's side too. And ultimately MMs. Knockout punch and all. I probably watch way too much HS ball, love to small ball.I think MM was hoping for PB to feed on the momentum and do something positive to help his mindset down the stretch. He was playing for the future instead of what gave them the best chance to score more runs in that game. The best thing for that game would have been to bunt them over and give Carp a chance with 1 out. Chances are good he would have driven at least 1 in. MM was pretty confident of the 3 run lead.
But PB is probably a lost cause. He's good at running down fly balls in CF but that's about it. He can't throw. For all the speed he has he is not a good base runner. And he just can't hit consistently enough. He had the chance to earn the spot when Jay went down but he just can't do it. I can't see them bringing him back next year especially with what the young guys have shown all year. Plus Jay will be back soon and he's consistently better than PB. And Holliday will be back. The OF is loaded, assuming Mo can talk JHey into sticking around.
Yeah. He had a gut feel that the positive energy going on at that point might give PB a boost. If MM was thinking knockout punch there were better options. Heck YOU would be a better option. At this point PB is about the same as Kozma. There in case injury causes a need for someone to play the field. I don't expect to see either one much more the rest of the way. If we do something bad has happened.I think you give MM way too much credit there. PB has buried on the bench for more than a month. Pham is PB down the stretch. I guess, I dunno. It's been pretty clear MM wants no part of PB. But evidently someone above him still wants him around. Probably not a fun scenario for anyone in the equation.Yeah.
