So Country Joe West and the review board both decided the BoSox RF wasn't reaching into the seats but the fans were reaching over the wall and interfered. I didn't see it that way, it looked to me like his glove was past the wall, but regardless how can they assume he was going to catch it and call the batter out? I assume that's the rule but on fan interference why don't they just call it a dead play and have a do over?

I just re-watched the Cubs/Bartman play. That ball was actually inside the wall and a more sure catch than last night. I don't think that batter got called out. I think it was just a foul ball. Then, of course, the Cubs blew it and Bartman became a household name. Has the rule changed or what was the difference?

They almost never call fan interference when they should. Now they called it when it wasnt. But the Bartman thing is still the greatest. Seeing the video in slow motion of that giant slice of pizza spinning thru the air toward him thrown by the "wrigley faithful" makes me LOL.

I saw it the same as you and wondered how in the world they could call the batter out. It would have been a really good catch, but not a sure thing.

No way he could catch it with glove closed. I guess that part was unreveiwable.

He says the fan bumped his glove and it looked to malice he did but the fan did NOT reach over the wall, the player did. Any account I've ever heard of the rule is that fans CAN go after the ball if it's on their side of the wall without it being fan interference.
