State Title Contenders

I have Class 2 as a 3 horse race.

1. Lamar
2. Valle
3. Bowling Green

Are there any other contenders?
Not in class 2, also I wouldn’t as of now count out New Madrid in Valley’s district, don’t think class 2 will be that much more fair to Valle. Tbh.

Does BG has replacements for the Starks and company?

Class 2 is weaker now than it's been in quite a while. Valle is on the much weaker side of the bracket. It couldn't have broke any better for their move down.

Yes Bowling Green is loaded again. RB committed to Wyoming. They are again a legit contender in Class 2.

Valle's district is going to be tough. You've got NMCC and Scott City to contend with which is no easy task. Some say Caruthersville is poised to make some noise this year. You never know what East Prairie, Malden or Kelly bring to the table but they could beat anybody on any given Friday.

A different back than Starks? Pretty sure he graduated. Knew the junior class was pretty good last year.

Yes, Bleyne Bryant. Tremendous athlete. I know they return a big TE and I believe a couple other lineman. I doubt they will be tested in the regular season, but don't know a whole lot about them. But I do remember #10.

BG underclassman on offense did well against BO in the WR position last year. BG will be just fine.
Wasn’t saying they wouldn’t be fine. I just knew they lost some impressive kids. They are deep like Lamar was. I’m happy for them.

He’s a stud. Watched the livestream.

Just hadn’t heard he was offered. That’s sweet. He did stand out.

Now that we have the districts released, who is the favorites in each class?
Class 1: Gallatin, 2: Lamar, 3: Park Hills Central (wide open class guess), 4: Hannibal-Kearney (tossup), 5: Cardinal Ritter (attack of the STL privates class), 6: CBC. Those would be my preseason #1s. MANY darkhorses, though, in each and every class. Does not look like any obvious ones like last year (St. Mary's and Fran Howell for instance).

Park Hills Central AKA Flat River, will have a fairly easy path to the state championship in Class 3. Should have a pick your poison offense this year.

Valle will win Class 2.
Park Hills will be good in Class 3. They have just about everyone back. But no way do they have an easy path to the state championship. They would run into Blair Oaks in the semis. Likely Valle vs. Lamar matchup for state championship in Class 2. Both Valle and Park Hills will be very good but both need to stay healthy. A key injury here or there would diminish either's chances.

NMCC has the elite athletes (Jadis Jones, BJ Williamson) to beat Valle. So does Lift for Life.

Class 1: super wide open, I'll take Gallatin or Portageville
Class 2: Lamar, Lafayette Co, Bowling Green, East Buch, Valle, NMCC, Lift4Life
Class 3: Park Hills, Blair Oaks, Seneca, Maryville, St. Pius
Class 4: Hillsboro, Lutheran North, Hannibal, Holt, Kearney, Smithville
Class 5: Eureka, Summit, Cardinal Ritter, MICDS, Webb, Grain Valley, Fort O
Class 6: CBC, Howell, DeSmet, Nixa, Lee's Summit North, Liberty North

Lutheran St. Charles week 3 will be the only test for them regular season.

I think you are spot on on many of these. I would maybe throw Helias into the mix in Class 5. We will find out more about them tonight against Hannibal, but they are always well coached.

North Platte will be a strong contender to win class 1 district 3. Gallatin will be the favorite to win class 1 district 4. East Buchanan returns almost everyone. They will be a contender in class 2.

This was a great prediction, 4/6.

Gallatin lost their star QB right out of the gate so that was a goner quickly. Nailed 2-3 actually. Was sorry not to see Hannibal in the C4 title game but the ole Alma Mater did indeed get #5. Ritter was too obvious but got pushed. CBC never looked right this season that verified in Columbia but they did run back to there.

Had totally forgotten about this post, thanks..............

SEMO gets a public title in that class for the first time in 30 years and here we go!

bahah
I just did a quick peep at Class 3 titles.

Blair Oaks, Logan Rogers, Maryville, Odessa, Monett pretty well make up the titles from Class 3 on the "west" side of the state over the last 13 or so years. Sorry if I missed any.

A lot of repeat visits for Maryville and Blair Oaks(different classes). Monett has had some very down years since. Logan Rogersville has one winning season since they won their title.

John Burroughs, St. Mary's, Trinity(lol), Park Hills C, CR, etc has represented "this side" for most of it.

Blair Oaks and Maryville are on different levels when it comes to 95% of schools in Class 3. That might even be too low. Facilities alone are better than 90% of the state.

There is no magical border within a state, that makes a team good or not. If you look at a map of the SEMO region, there are A LOT of schools who don't have football given their size, cost etc. One of the biggest private schools on this side of the state doesn't even have football.

Demographics are all different, but the kids all grow the same. It's not 1970 anymore and teams are still gaining an advantage with a closet full of weights.

Maryville facilities are nice, but nothing out of the ordinary. Like most places that compete regularly for state titles, their coaching staff is top notch.

Just not in SEMO for 30 years.
