As I stated last year THIS should be (regardless of class) an annual rivalry game as tonight showed these two aren't exactly friends. Prior to opening kickoff it was so heated BOTH sidelines were flagged/warned for unsportsmanlike conduct! As I've found in three decades in industry sometimes former co-workers make the biggest rivals..............
Staley had a point-blank chance right out of the gate but Park Hill, who possesses one of the most formidable D lines in the Metro if not all MO, made a great stand and held. From that point on this one was a scoreless draw with a few nice plays but mostly flying defenses (have stated before this Falcons D is about as fast as it gets) and VERY VERY hard hitting which unfortunately resulted in a 20 minute delay due to a severe injury to a Staley D back (still haven't gotten word on his condition but credit first responders for arriving and treating him quickly). Once play resumed Park Hill benefitted from Staley sending the house on 3rd and long from midfield and subsequently scored right before a very emotional halftime (the Falcons team gathered behind and adjacent to the visitors stands and could be heard a number of times from them where I resided) making it 7-0 Trojans.
Staley came out on fire in the third quarter and took a 10-7 advantage to the fourth where, when they impressively went up 17-7 with 5 minutes left, I wanted to see if they learned from blowing a 9-point late lead at LS West. On a critical fourth and 1 a bad snap and QB handle turned it over on downs and gave the Trojans a distant chance on which they, to their immense credit, converted closing to 17-14. After a quick stop and a couple of timeouts PH had one final shot but this time the Falcons D held for a huge statement win that should reverberate through the upcoming C5 playoffs.
Park Hill certainly has nothing to hang their heads about (other than sooooo many needless pens at inopportune times tonight) but now travels to Blue Springs trying to hang onto a top 4 district seed.
Overall I have to admit the major injury took some away from this one but it was a fantastic second half and I hope these two keep this intense series going.
