St. Louis may have closed the gap that once existed between East and West side of the state.

Cardinal Ritter, Trinity Catholic, Ladue Horton Watkins, MICDS, Vianney and Christian Brothers College all competing for state titles on 2018. Say it ain't so.

Had to work the private school system to do it but no denying that area put out some sick teams this year!

I really think overall football down all over the state. Because of CTE scares and more schools adding soccer. The thing going on in STL is the top talent is concreted at just a few schools.

They did, but they did it all in PRIVATE.

Ladue has been good the last 3 years and they were public but it does appear that many of the public schools have taken a dive. Hazelwood East used to be a class 6 power and now they struggle in class 4. Summer is an afterthought. Maplewood-Richmond Heights, do they even exist anymore? Kirkwood, Webster Groves and McCleur North?

There is no doubt that there is a framework for Lutheran North, Trinity, Vianney and especially CBC to carve out dynasties if a lot of the select talent in St Louis is going to gravitate there.

There’s some of that. But teams in certain areas are going to have ups and downs. Some of these SWMO schools just didn’t have what it takes this season.

I can see that from CBC and Vianney. For sure.

Could be private. I don't think it's a matter of catching up.
Arguably, it's a step back.

Cheaters never .............. never mind, they do.

HWE was pretty good, actually. Kirkwood was state champs 2 years ago.
I don’t think McCluer has been decent in a long time. Maplewood has been traditionally God awful. They had a flash for a couple of years, then resumed their tradition.
I agree wholeheartedly about Webster, though. For being a statewide juggernaut, they’ve gone off the deep end...and they’re not even mediocre, they’re nauseating to watch.
Although never a title winner, Eureka, I believe, has been the winningest program in the area.

Yeah, i’m talking about just the last couple years. 2 years ago none of the St Louis private schools were as strong. I think Helias beat CBC like 4 years ago. I still think Kirkwood was pretty good. (I think after you see how easily CBC handles Rock tonight that Joplin was actually pretty good). Clearly though I think if you compare the top 3 public schools in each class in the St Louis area to where they were just 2 years ago with the notable exception of Ladue I think you see a big drop off and I think it could just accelerate from here.

Don’t you think CBC,Vianney, Trinity and Lutheran North are going to have some additional move ins between now and next year?

CBC is Senior Heavy, Vianney losing best player.
Trinity will still have players but lose QB, Lutheran North seriously needs to get on the recruiting trail. LN & Trinity will really need some timely transfers and some incoming D1 guys. CBC though is popular enough in St Louis that they should easily reload with more top end recruits.

so I read an article in a st louis publication the other day, an above poster mentions when sumner was strong. Back in the day, the St Louis city schools were in the PHL (public high league) , all the great afro American athletes were playing for city schools, then a lawsuit was settled to desegregate area schools. So now what you have is many city athletes are transferring to suburban schools like parkway, ladue, Kirkwood, etc... the kids /athletes are bussed out to st louis county schools and at the same time, white students could transfer to city magnet schools. Obviously, there is probably some recruiting going on, but, that is no different than the catholic schools that recruit or maybe your top programs in the state like webb city, who are great programs and kids want to play there..

They’ll need to do this for another five or six years to be able to catch up to what’s happened over the last 20. San Luis only wins about 30% of all the championships over the last 20 years

Historically 18 schools from St. Louis have won state titles in football. Ten public schools and 8 private schools. Trinity Catholic, Cardinal Ritter and Ladue Horton Watkins all have a chance to become 1st time champions. MICDS, Vianney and CBC all have a shot at adding another title.

Private
John Burroughs (9)
Country-Day/MICDS (7)
Lutheran North (5)
SLUH (1)
Priory (1)
DeSmet (1)
Vianney (1)
CBC (2)

Public

Webster Groves (4)
Hazelwood East (3)
McCluer (2)
Kirkwood (2)

The desegregation program has been almost completely phased out compared to what it was in the 80s and 90s when nearly 15000 students were bussed yearly. Last year only 438 minority kids entered the program. Only 17% of students who apply for deseg are accepted and it’s done by lottery.
