The winless Lions took down the undefeated Orrick Bearcats last night. Wonder how often that has happened this late in the season.

Not sure about that game, but in 1a football, 1 or 2 injuries can be devastating

You have to go back to 2010 to find a previous 8 man state champion this isn't currently part of the GRC...If you don't count Mound City, you have to go back to 2004.

That being said, Mound City is looking strong and based on Stanberry remaining undefeated, it appears this is the most likely title game matchup (if I have the bracket right). I'd look for Worth County and Pattonsburg to play spoiler though. King City, North Andrew, SW Livingston, and East Atchison are the next tier IMO.

What is ironic is that SJC was the team with a depleted roster. They started the year with 23 players and were down to 11 for that game. They had lost every game by at least 30 and Orrick had scored 50 or more against everyone else. This was a huge upset.

And 1992 was the last time both teams in championship game did not have a current GRC team. The conference may be new for 8-man, but the dominance of the teams is not.
