Year three of this series promises to be much closer than 2021-22 BUT is Pius ready for this Kansas 4A EKL former State champ? Remember they entered this game winless in 2021................
Maryville is facing Lutheran North, the (very) heavy Class 4 title favorite at Macon this Friday. Will that be close at all like last year?Pius will learn from it and will be primed to make another run.
Comparing scores virtually never works it is TIMING. Maryville seems to have really improved since that opener. I put far less stock in openers than the rest of the season, frankly.Tough to say, but Lutheran North beat Blair Oaks 38 -30 and Blair Oaks beat Maryville 41 - 14.
You would think that Lutheran North would be favored by 21 - 28 pts.
I agree comparing scores doesn't always tell the whole story, neither do final scores.Comparing scores virtually never works it is TIMING. Maryville seems to have really improved since that opener. I put far less stock in openers than the rest of the season, frankly.
Last year this was a real good game nobody outside the hard core Spoofhounds partisans saw coming.
Not sure where our main Spoofhound account bhunt95 went would like his perspective. That result got my attention, too. Tough to schedule LN one week before their biggest by far rival Savannah comes calling.I agree comparing scores doesn't always tell the whole story, neither do final scores.
I will say I think the Blair Oaks and Maryville score is a pretty accurate representation of where both teams stand with each other, even if the game was played now. Except I think both would score another touchdown or two making it a higher scoring game. Blair Oaks and Lutheran North game could have been a quite a bit different. BO got inside LN 10 yard line 3 times, missed 3 field goals and came away with no points. That's 24 points they left on the field. BO also had the only turnover of the game which was inside their own 10 yard line and led to LN first score. BO had the opportunities to win the game but didn't take advantage of them.
Overall I think Lutheran North wins this by 2 or 3 scores though. I would say both teams are better now than they were the first 2 games of the year. Not sure what happened with Maryville in that Cameron game, I know Cameron is better than they have been but they shouldn't have played Maryville that close.

Yes I know 3 field goals doesn't equal 24 points. My point was BO got inside the 10 3 times and didn't come away with a single point. I know you know enough about football to understand that anytime you get inside the 10 you better come up with some points, whether it be 3 field goals for 9 points, or 3 touchdowns with 3 two point conversions for 24 points, or whatever combination of the two. Point is a team with those opportunities has to get points on the board in games like that, especially when they were inside the 5 two of those 3 times.
