Thoughts on who falls in line in the SRVC. Obviously right now Lockwood is a safe number 1 pick. The rest seems like a toss up.
The only conference teams to battle each other this week are Sarcoxie and Miller and PC and Jasper.
Tough to rate a conference when they don't go head to head each week.
Does Pierce City survive this week against Jasper? They had a solid showing against Diamond but almost lost to Liberal not that Liberal isn't better than the past.
Miller lost to Sarcoxie last year but have them on home turf this year. Talent wise who is the better team?

Miller, Sarcoxie, and Diamond are the teams that appear to be on the rise. Diamond the only one of those that appears to be a threat to Lockwood who appears to be down some but still at the top. This early in, i'd say the conference seems more balanced than in a long time and slightly better overall than last year. I think in the near future there will be some pretty good teams in the league but this year is pretty weak. Still early though.

Being from Jasper.... And after the game with Diamond I'm going to change my pick to win the Srvc from Diamond to Lockwood. Imo Diamond isn't nearly as good as I thought they would be but I also didn't think my Jasper team would be 0-2... Our team has lost 2 seniors for the yr 1 Being during the jam. We have a total of 5 major injures and the new coach... Jasper will be down for a hand full of yrs and im hearing we may not have enough boys out to even play next yr. I hate to say it but imo pc beats us this week.. I'll be cheering for Jasper tho

  • i know Jasper had to cancel Jr High this year to not enough kids out... has there been any talk about 8 man in the coming years..

I've heard maybe but I've also heard the kids say if they go 8 man then they'll just not play or play fall baseball somewhere... I wouldn't be surprised if the only football in our town for a few yrs being pee wee. But no one knows for sure.. I know IF we play 11 man or 8 man next year we will be VERY bad. Things aren't looking great which makes me sad.. 3 pretty good yrs imo to maybe not fielding a team. And we have no one to coop with.

There are several teams in the conference that are in jeopardy of going 8 man in the future. I won't be surprised to see the SRVC dissolve in a few years at least for football.
There were talks last year of some of the spring river teams going to the mid lakes and them making a MLC large and MLC small. I can see these teams going if they are offered again because of the grim outlook to keep 11 man football.

I didn't see this coming. Teams that have played 11 man for years going to 8 man. Now, hearing that Jasper is having numbers problems, I'm thinking Pierce City would have been better served staying in the mid-lakes.

TBS, I think Diamond and Lockwood are on another level than the balance of the teams. Miller, Scratch and PC have young teams that will improve throughout the season.

What would a Jasper/Liberal co-op add up to?

I never liked leaving the MLC but Strafford, FG, and even Stockton are quite a bit bigger. With Forsyth and Clever adding football maybe it's time to form a large and small MLC and you could cross over and play some on the other side depending on what your prospects are. If you were in the small and expected a good team you could schedule some better competition etc.

Lockwood will have low numbers soon too

Yeah ive been told they may even go 8 man Next year or the year after... The kids coming up are few and far between and they lost 14 seniors last yr and a bunch more this yr.. I could see Lockwood easily going 8 man or trying to play 11 man with 16-19 kids

I like this. Isn't clever starting a program? I'd trade them for Lockwood.

There have been discussions of a North-South MLC with invitations sent to schools throughout the area to bring some other schools in. They include schools from the SRVC, the SWC, an independent, and one up north on 65.

Good picks not sure I wouldn't swap Skyline and Diamond though. Lockwood is in pretty big trouble going 8 man so not sure they would be a good contender. Talent wise yes, but not confident they could keep a team.

It's not 100 % they'll go 8 man (Lockwood) but there numbers will be way down..

I'd put Jasper in the small before Lockwood; Eagles haven't always had the competitive level, but they never went JV only nor did they ever go 8-man so far. Geographically, they'll be able to better recover (district borders Lamar, Carl, Carthage, Webb). Coach should "talk" to second and third stringer families in those communities about moving a little ways over. A nice housing development a few miles north of Alba would help Jasper in a lot of ways.

Sarcoxie looked good tonight. Comerford is special and the team played very smart physical football.

Its beyond frustrating to watch Miller get out coached each week. We continue to run an offense we are not equipped to run. When you can only complete 30% of your passes its hard to run a spread. We have a kid that scores about every other time he touches the ball yet we get him about 5 touches a game. We run the same old 4-3 def. with slow DEnds and get beat on the edge constantly. Put your kids in position where they excel and get your playmakers the ball. Figure it out. Nobody is gonna convince me we didn't have enough talent to compete with Sarcoxie last night. That was not a knock on Sarcoxie. They are pretty good.

Don't think that is correct. In 8 man there is a 3 way at Pattonsburg.
As of 2014 up to 3 schools can co-op but only for 8 man and total combined enrollment must stay below 200. Lockwood will not go 8 man . Their numbers are better than expected. For the next 5-7 yrs. they should have 30-40 playing hs football according to the numbers in Jr. Hi and mighty mites.
