What a week for the pick em. Revno is on a roll and only 3 people above 50% for the week I've never seen that before on here.

Last week was probably my worst week of picks since this started up.

Looks like another bad week for the hometown crowds.

Hahaha shows how much you know Hoka. I have watched "the greatest team ever" you do realize I have family on that team right? You missed a heck of a 8 man game the other night. Both starting qb's injured and missed some of the game. It was back n forth with Greenfield outlasting the "sisters of the poor" (dumb comment) we did however beat a more athletic private school. We had several turnovers and just pure toughness and dedication that won the game for us.

Speaking of sisters did ya catch the junior high game the other night when our female football players put it on Lockwood?!?!

8-man ought to count a half game.. Chilhowee?? Where is that? Is McAuley 8man?

Unfortunately it is an 8 man game against McAuley. This will do nothing for us. Revno you are probably right. These 8 man games are so hard to pick.

Chilhowee is between Clinton and Warrensburg,

Hokahey says he hates these games but dang Hok sounds like you need to get used to them since that is Lockwoods future...

Just seen your other post fbfan23. Yeah I knew that you did. Someone told me that last year. Atleast you got some smart ones in your family. I actually was at the JH game the other night for awhile. You guys had a good team and we are down a bit at that age. I'll give those girls credit, they weren't afraid to get in there and hit around. You guys should have hit up the VB team to help the HS. Then you wouldn't have to be playing 8 man either. As for us, no chance we go 8 man. We will always have enough to play and when the Greenfield Board shuts down FB there you guys will be coming our way.

Unfortunately it's not up to me and you Hokahey but my personal preference would be that we go back to 11 man next year.
Is it true that someone from Lockwood was inquiring about future 8 man conferences they could be in???????????

Honestly I haven't heard anything about looking for an 8 man conference but I know Clay has stated numbers will need to increase to not get into a state of thinking 8 man though.

We'll see how things at LW are in 2 years.Talent is gonna fall off the charts and some of what is going around is gonna come around.

IF GC is closed those kids will mostly go to Lamar.

Every small school is like that.. Some years good, and some not so much. Of course talent will fall off the charts, but for now we're just enjoying a good year... Nothing wrong with that.

One thing that is going on in this era is the rural populations are diminishing more and more as a certain group of successful farmers and farm corporations are gobbling up the good farmland. This has already taken a toll on Golden City; I could see it being an issue with Lockwood, Liberal, Jasper, districts with good cropland areas and small towns. I'm not saying this is a bad thing as the growing population needs to be fed, yet it grows more challenges in keeping small-school sports competitive. It is a hard truth that may someday need to be faced; leagues like the SRVC may have to be like that one in Kansas (Three Rivers I believe?) that runs an 8-man and 11-man division and lets schools bounce back and forth at the cycle. I know that won't be easy until there is more actual 8-man competition, but if the rural population keeps going in the direction it is, more areas may have to do this as well. Just a thought.

It would be a lot easier for these small schools to consistently field a competitive 8 man team but as a traditional guy I like to see 11 man smash mouth football. Just my preference, which means nothing in the overall bigger picture.

Would be neat to see how swmo would change the outcome of 8 man playoffs once established but would still miss the chance to play some of the traditional games.

8 man has grown on me in the last 2 years it is a more high pace high scoring game. To a fan that doesn't even like the spread offense it's been an adjustment.

I expect the 8 man thing to happen soon enough but Miller has almost always got enough to play 11. I only remember a couple seasons where being on the team made you a starter.
My greater concern is what happens when some SRVC teams go 8 man and some go Mid Lakes or elsewhere. What will the leftovers do?

The srvc is all but done. Midlakes will poach the larger schools and the small schools will be SOL. When more than one conference school is playing 8 man its not a big jump. Schools in the area will be closing soon i think. That will change some numbers.

Lockwood and golden city could field seperate 8 man teams. May not be able to keep 4 administrators in a school with 100 kids though

So far, at least according to the articles, there has been only one SRVC school that could be getting "poached," and that school, if it approves the invite, would be the smaller dog in the pack. For the remaining SRVC schools, they could keep playing minus that one for awhile anyways. However, in the near or distant future, the SRVC and WEMO may want to consider a merger just for football only, and play with both 11-man and 8-man divisions, again as my previous post stated, allowing schools to determine at each cycle which they'll play for two years. I know this isn't perfect, but it may ease some scheduling headaches. Also, it's just an idea; who knows what will happen. Yet, merged conferences was what the WEMO really was in the 90s, as three Midwest Conference schools participated in the league, under the WEMO by-laws.

That'd be delicious.
