These were only recommendations, but MGT of America (the company hired by SPS to do the Master Facilities Plan) have new gyms for Central, Glendale, & Kickapoo! After yelling about this since 2001, I think something is actually going to happen in the near future. Still have a long way to go, but this is a giant step forward.

What the heck is gonna cost 27 million at Hillcrest without a new gym?

I'm for Glendale and Kickapoo getting new gyms. But don't take away the Pit away from Central! Lol. Just kidding, good for SPS, good for those schools, good for those students. It has been needed for awhile.

That's awesome news. Any clue on a timetable if this gets approved?

Those new gyms are terribly, terribly overdue. (Although Parkview could certainly use a new one as well.) The gulf between SPS gyms and pretty much every other school in the area is vast.

I think Hillcrest is going to be a complete renovation of the existing building that hasn't been touched since 1957-58. Yes, they added a new gym in '91, a new two-story science classroom wing in '09, and a new tornado safe room/cafeteria in '13, but they haven't done much to the original structure.

I doubt it'll be as extensive as what they did to Parkview between '00-'03ish. Only 10% of the original Parkview HS (built in '55-'56) is left.

By the way, I like the new gym at Poplar Bluff. The Mules old gym looked very much like Glendale's with the inverted triangle roof.

I would look for a Bond Issue vote for November of 2017. They had one after the '08 election in Nov. of '09, then another in Nov. of '13 after the 2012 election. I doubt they'd do all three high school gyms are once, so one of the three might have to wait for a second Bond Issue vote in Nov. '21. OR SPS could do 3-4 Bond Issues instead of just two. Those details will have to be worked out over the coming months, if not years. I'd say all three high schools will have new gyms up and running within the next 5-10 years. At least it's in writing that it needs to happen, which wasn't the case before this Master Facilities Plan was produced.

Terribly, terribly overdue is an understatement. I recall Roy Green was told in the early-90's that maybe POO would get a new gym "next time." Well, that was about 4-5 bond issues ago (and 30 years!!).

Parkview's gym just needs a simple renovation (new paint job type deal). I'd model it after what St. Louis Lindbergh did to their gym last year. They're very similar in design too.

These pictures are the best look I've had at the new P.B. gym. They added the catwalk entrance after the original plans were made. Many people saw the way it was going to be and asked that the catwalk be added to get in the place without walking in front of everybody, and the benches, to get to your seat. It added a LOT of cost to the building which also made a LOT of folks mad. I wish it had bleachers on the end like the current gym. I'll see it when basketball season starts I guess.

I think Central can just build out to the north from the current gym where the Kraft administrative building used to be. Although, I saw a pic on twitter recently from back in the spring that showed a back hoe moving dirt on that land, so maybe that isn't an option. That would mean building within the footprint of the current gym . I'd hate to see the old Pit done away with, but that might be necessary given their lack of land at Central.

Glendale & Kickapoo will be a challenge for similar reasons, lack of land. I guess the new gyms will have be constructed on the ground of the current facilities. At Glendale, I'm assuming that means taking out the practice gym and going all the way north to the wall of the new student commons area. So, you'd be talking new locker rooms, new practice gym, new main gym, new wrestling room, new weight room, etc. Not sure if the choir rooms & ISS classroom to the west would have to be dealt with or not. I think Kickapoo would be easier, but they might have to move to court from east-west to north-south for it to fit that space. Catholic switched the direction of the court at their new gym too.

The new student commons area is setup perfectly at Glendale for the new gym to be built on the other side of the trophy case wall (south all the way to the parking lot) and serve as the lobby for the new gym.

The new student commons is the grey area in the middle of the school. Everything south of that could go except for the band room (black roof in the left-hand corner) and the theater (in the right-hand corner.)

How about we give money to the only school in Springfield and Springfield metro area who doesn't have a wrestling room, a wrestling room before we give Glendale and Kickapoo new ones

If you're talking about Parkview, they'll be getting $6 million in P.E. renovations (including a new wrestling room) on the next Bond, but this one has to make it first. If you're talking about Central, they'll be getting a whole new gym on the next Bond as well. Maybe they could turn the old Pit into a wrestling room. The gyms at Glendale and Kickapoo have been on the waiting list for LONG TIME...going back to the Bond approved in the early-90's. Enough is enough!

This will be done in stages, but this is what the master facilities plan listed for the high schools.

I hope people like you are satisfied, because now NONE of the schools will get ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wrestling room for Parkview...that won't happen for maybe 20-30 years now. Are you proud of yourself?

Did I ever say i was voting against it???? No, I was just stating that I thought that the team/ school without a wrestling room should get one before the schools with ones already get new ones. I voted for it

I'm afraid they'll drop both gyms from the next Bond or go with one, which should really be Central's, since they've waited the longest. They better not go with Kickapoo over Glendale, though. WORLD WAR 3 will start if that happens!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
