I like Wyatt, think he’s done an admirable job covering Missouri State, but sure hope SPS wrote him a check for that puff piece.
Central should have never joined the OC. I know it, they know it, everyone with any sense knows it, but, at least here, we have admission for why it happened and why they continue to stay in -- it makes some administrators job a little easier because scheduling is otherwise difficult. Meaning, they, apparently, joined the OC because it helps the people drawing a paycheck, not because they thought it would benefit the kids on the playing field.
Who could have guessed that?
Unfortunately, Wyatt mentions the two sports Central has enjoyed some success while failing to mention the other issues in athletics. I understand this is a football piece, but if you are going to deviate from the subject at hand to provide context by mentioning other sports, you don't cherry pick the two sports that have had some success while ignoring the all the sports that have suffered a similar fate as the football program.
The boys’ basketball team hasn’t won a single game in two years. How is that even possible in a sport with ample opportunities to schedule weaker opponents? The girls basketball team hasn’t had a winning record since 2010. The softball team is playing a bevy of Class 1 teams because, when facing the Ozark Conference, they are getting outscored 75-2. The volleyball team has a single win this fall. The baseball team was 2-17 last spring and hasn’t had a winning record this century despite mostly playing a who’s who of Class 1 and Class 2 teams.
These sports are all trending in the wrong direction. At the very least, it calls for more scrutiny and examination of why you would choose to join the Ozark Conference when you are consistently getting run ruled by Macks Creek?
I like Mr Scott and think he’s a good guy, but the mistake over joining the OC wasn’t made on his watch. The sooner everyone at SPS admits their mistake and looks for a solution, the sooner they'll find a situation that benefits the kids instead of themselves.
