Congratulations to the honorees. Not quite as watered-down as the Coaches Association picks.
I'm sure they are wonderful players. And Congratulations to them. But, wonder if any Defensive End named to these teams had 115 total tackles in 11 games this season. Like a kid that didn't make it. Just curious. Fortunately, the Coaches got it right on him the last two years.
I always take "tackles" stats with a grain of salt. Different Coaches stat tackles in different ways. Some basically give credit to everyone that made contact with the runner while others only give credit only the the ONE that brings the guy down.I'm sure they are wonderful players. You are probably right about the variances in awarding tackles. But legitimate tackling assists are ultra-important to a defense.I always take "tackles" stats with a grain of salt. I know how you feel. And he probably played the majority of those quarters in those 11 games he played. But I know one D-End that in 10 out of 15 games he played in he was pulled out of the game as early as the start of the second quarter due to his team being ahead by many points and was not allowed to pad his stats with the tackles he "Would" have had had he been able to play the entire game. Getting pressure on a quarterback is a stat I never see but is crucial in a game as it causes throw aways and interceptions. I always liked the coaches poll better as they had a chance to see these kids play more than the media ever did. Coaches got to see the pressure these players put on their opponents. I'm sure the player you spoke of is a great athlete and deserving of the honor as well.I'm sure they are wonderful players. And Congratulations to them.
